Post subject:  New to Breitling: bezel question

Hi all - just traded in a TAG for a Breitling Skyracer Raven with tungsten dial. I love how it looks.

While changing the strap I notice the bezel has some play in it. I don’t mean rotational play - I mean it moves slightly back and forth horizontally from 12-6 and 3-9. It surprised me that I can wiggle the bezel so easily in that way, but I read this may be normal for these models. It’s just not clear to me whether the play I read about is the same thing I’m seeing.

Rotation itself is smooth, a little smoother than I’m used to. Definitely not ratchet like, but I think I feel slight clicks, which is ok I think?

Was it a new Skyracer from an AD? If so get them to check it out and compare it to another if they have the stock.

If 2nd hand I am sure someone on here will own one and pass comment.

Bezel on B-1, Airwolf & Skyracer do not have a ratchet action. Some lateral play is quite normal.

Second hand from Crown and Caliber. I can send it back but searches indicate this may be normal so I’m just making sure.

Thanks. It’s not at all something I expected and it’s good to have a community of folks to check with. I have a Sinn and preciously the TAG and both of those were firm and precise.

Anyone know why lateral movement is acceptable for Breitling? Is it supposed to absorb impact or something?

It’s about the gearing mechanism which needs expansion room to prevent seizure. Ratchet bezels do not need this as they are secured by click springs.

I have owned both B-1 and Airwolf models and all had some lateral movement. If it is a worry to you or if you think it’s excessive then get it checked out but the more common problem is seizure due to lack of service and gunge build up.
