I have a quartz Navitimer from around 1990. I just purchased and working fine. Assume it has not been serviced for a long time. Recommendation for an independent watchmaker or should I send it to Breitling? I am in the USA.

It depends on exactly which watch you have. Breitling doesn't have the parts for most older quartz models so doesn't service them.

If they do not have the parts, do they change the movement, since it is quartz? Any idea of the cost? Or they will just not service it? Thank you

Once again it depends on what you have. If you have an early Navitimer (renamed Aerospace later) they might be able to do a superquartz upgrade but won't be able to service or replace the original movement. If you have a slightly earlier Navitimer 3100 they just won't service it. Later quartz watches can be serviced without completely replacing the movement but not so much the earlier ones. Service costs can be seen on the Breitling web site.

Any recommendation for a qualified watchmaker in the USA with a Breitling account? Or should I just send it to Breitling?

It would be helpful to know what model you have so I can give you a more accurate answer.

Actually I just bought one of those today just slightly earlier as it just has the older reference number. Yours is a transition piece which shows both the earlier reference number (8o360) and the later style (F56059). The one I bought, supposedly, just had a new movement installed by Breitling. Since yours is functioning fine I would send it in to Breitling and see if they'll do a service. They have two levels of service. One is a maintenance service and the other a full service. You can see the descriptions and costs on the Breitling.com web site under Service. They'll probably want to replace the hands, crystal, and crown whether you think they need it or not. That's my experience anyway. ;-)
