Post subject:  Black doesn't start after winding

Hi,
I recently bought my first Breitling, a new Blackbird, and after winding it 40 turns it worked for about 24 hours but stopped the following morning. I have tried winding it again (40 turns) however the watch does not start. Am I doing anything wrong?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

A full 40 turn wind should be good for around 42 hours, even without wearing, so 24 hours seems low, and if it now isn't running at all then it needs to go back to the AD to be looked at - something doesn't sound right.

I'm assuming that to wind it you are simply unscrewing the crown and then winding it from the first setting.

Well, this sounds familiar. My Crosswind started losing about five minutes per week last summer, and last week refused to start. AD calls me and says that the lubrication has become insufficient in the three years since my last service to keep it running. $555 later for a full service...

thanks for the help. Can I cause damage by winding it too much?

Absolutley not.

An automatic watch has a slip clutch mechanism that prevents the mainspring from becoming too tight.
