I've been lucky enough to pick up a 1990's Astromat QP (1991?) with the leap year movement (a step up from the 1461 I believe) and wondered if anyone has definitive info on the model. Research online tells me the 1461 version uses the B19 ETA 2892-A2 movement - is the QP based on the same calibre? I also can't find out how many where made. I've seen claims of 100 K18405 yellow gold ones, but I've also seen a picture of a certificate for that model stating it was one of 50. The one I have is white gold (J code) but without its papers. Does anyone know how many they made? Allegedly it was listed at $33,000 when new - but then that was at the height of the boom years just before a big slump! Any help will be gratefully received. |

Not a well documented model so not sure how many there were. Calibre is in the model number K18405. It's a perpetual module on the ETA 2892-A2, same base calibre as the semi perpetual B19 and the more common perpetual B29. |

Thanks, my bad. The first digits of the model number are the calibre. So it's the same base movement as the 1461 b19 version, presumably with just a different DD chrono module? |

Update on this for anyone interested. Breitling have the watch at their service centre now. The full model reference number is J1840512/G115. They say it is one of 25 made. Servicing, with a new crown and dial replacement (it has some discolouring) is £1,800. |

Wow that is some beast; I have always viewed the Astromat QP as the absolute ultimate Breitling watch. It has a fond memory for me back in 1992 when I was getting into Breitling so to speak, my local dealer had a white gold Astromat QP for sale, I think it was around £25k which fits with the dollar price you have. I was blown away by it, it just shouts opulence over any other watch I've ever seen. Yes the numbers are correct as I remember; 25 in white gold and 100 in yellow gold. Anyway, it is a real shame you don't have the papers. Quite why people buy these sort of things and don't keep the papers is totally beyond me. The watch also came with a winder; I hope you have this. In terms of value - being a rare item it is quite difficult to value accurately - however I recall seeing a dealer in London a few years back selling a yellow gold version with papers and the winder for £10k. Yours is rarer of course but without papers. |
