Post subject:  Sweep hand Chrono

I recently purchased a SA and I have a qustion about the chrono sweep hand. The first Breitling I purchased, an EVO, had a sweep hand that was not smooth. It apeared to skip and them tick regularly and then skip a few. I think you get the picture. I ended up sending the Evo to Breitling to be looked at and it came back with a smooth running chrono sweep. It and this watch keep time and the sub dial seconds register runs smoothly. I know I am not the only one that looks this close at their watches. So is this "normal" for a watch that has sat for some time, should I run the chrono and spread the oil on the gears? Or do I send it in to Breitling for a check up. It is well in warranty coverage. what do you guys think. I have heard that you need to wear a watch to get to run well, heat up the oil, spread it around?

I will start the chrono fuction on my Evo every month or two and let it go for at least 24 hours (sometimes longer if I forget). This should keep the movement freed up and running good.

My second Breitling (Skyland) does the same thing that you are describing. I did send it back to Breitling because of this and another problem. When it came back it still had a little "hacking" to the sweep hand. My AD has a watch specialist and he said it was normal. He advised as long as it keeps proper time that is the main thing to be concerned with since it is a mechanical watch. The chronograph does keep very good time. Of course my chrono super ocean did not have this problem. And again they both have the same movement. I've been a little perplexed myself. I'd be glad to hear about other members experiences.

The fact that it happened on the Evo and I did send it back and after Breitling worked on it it smothed out. I will let it run a while and if it does not clear up I will follow up with a call to Breitling USA. I would like to believe that this watch did not leave the factory this way and it is a matter of running it to clear it up. It is really a small thing but if you are obsesive about your waches it can drive you a little nutty.

Same here on my Skyland...It is normal; Chronograph second hand, as it moves, displays 1/4 of a second (described in manual) and therefore it is not smooth sweep...Enjoy your watch :D

It doesnt happen on my skyland, but ive read that its normal for some 7750's to do that.

I just got my (almost new) Chromomat back from my AD after having that exact problem. After about 12-15 smooth seconds the hand started to move very un-smooth...

Can“t remember the terminology, but they adjusted something and now it runs smooth all the way.

Hmmm... is this an epidemic... or a feature (like the "Bentley-flaw")?

I had the same problem after my vintage Breitling 815 Long Playing was refurbished by BUK. I noticed it immediately I had the watch back from service. I sent it back and it was put right. My watch has the Valjoux 7736 BTW. I did a bit of research online. I believe (I may well be wrong) this problem is caused by an incorrect amount of spring tension of some part of the movement. I think that very fine adjustment is required.

It's not 'normal' and in my view, unacceptable in a high-quality watch.
