Tried Navitimer World on the wrist today (amongst other from other brands), and really liked it, so I just wondered what people think of the World.

Hi,

I really enjoy my Nav world, which has the white dial.

So easy to change the look of it to suit whatever you are wearing.

I'm unconcerned about the lack of WR as I'd never wear it in, or near, any water I may end up in ...

The crystal sounds loose if you tap it, but I know that's common.

But for aesthetic value, it's right up there with some of the finest. Just my opinion of course.

Enjoy yours should you buy one.

Davey.

OK so there is a little moisture in this one, it was for 30 seconds :)

I've owned two Navi Worlds - a blue dial on blue croco and a silver dial (like Davey's) on the Navi bracelet - and they're superb watches.

As it turned out I sold the blue one after a year or so as I just don't find blue dials to be very versatile (especially on blue croco!), and I only very recently sold my silver one as the lack of an in-house movement in a number of my more expensive watches has just started to bug me. I know it doesn't matter to a lot of watch fanatics, but to me it's become a source of irritation as the cost of watches has increased over the years.

But if the lack of an in-house movement doesn't bother you, and you want a large but still classically styled Navi, then the World is very hard to beat.

I had a similar experience. I had the blue dial Navi World, and loved the aesthetics of it. However, as I learned more about watches, the 7754 movement detracted from the allure of the watch. It was also VERY noisy on the wrist. I tried on a Navitimer 01 and knew--based on the movement and the reduced size--that the 01 was right for me.

Also enjoying my black Navi World a lot. The fact that you can feeli it moving on the wrist it's a plus for me, makes the watch feel "alive" on the sudden moves that make the rotor spin. Regarding the movement, there are pro's and cons for having a more common mechanism compared to an in-house one. If for, whatever reason, you decide the Breitling maintenance costs are too much, you can easily find good independent watch makers that can service your watch.

So if you like how it looks and feels on your wrist, go for it!

I totally agree with Cryo on the ETA vs in-house thing. ETA-based movements will always be cheaper to service (even at Breitling), and if you ever need to get anything done outside of the Breitling network for some reason, then ETA parts are easily accessible. Additionally ETA-based movements are more "tried and tested" when compared to the relatively young B01, etc. It just depends on what's more important to you as a buyer.

For me, mechanical watches are completely luxury (and frankly, in these days of smartphones, completely unnecessary) items these days, so owning nice timepieces is more about how they make me feel as opposed to being a vital timekeeping device. And for me, knowing that the movement is made by the brand, and not found anywhere else other than in watches made by them has become more important to me when I'm looking to pay "big bucks" for a watch.

As I say it's not a view shared by everyone, and that's absolutely fine : just something for the OP to potentially consider.

Anyway here's a couple of fairly poor pics of my old Worlds. Firstly the silver one -

And here's my old blue one (although this was when I swapped it onto the bracelet from the silver one. I don't have a picture of it on the original blue croco -

I must agree with the overall comments above! It still is one of my favorites (I own 4 Breitling). A word of caution though - I have the white face one and sometimes I find it a bit difficult to read the time - maybe if I was buying it again I would opt for the black face. Just try it and see for yourself. Another thing is the size of it - 46mm is a rather large watch. So you must try it before you buy! Anyhow, Enjoy it

I've owned a few of this black dial World, it's still one of my all time favorite pieces! You can't go wrong, just don't plan on taking it for a swim!
