how many days are in each month. I didn't realize that once a month I was going to have to adjust the calender if it fell on one that had less than 31 days. Is Rolex like this also ? |

Technicaly Rolex is MORE like that than Breitling is, as Rolex does not have a watch with a semi-perpetual or perpetual calendar, where as Breitling does have a few. Any watch that does not have an semi-perpetual or perpetual calendar will not know how many days are in a month. Is the watch in question a Datora? |

Yes, and I think it should be pointed out that if you want a mechanical swiss watch with a perpetual calendar (a calendar that corrects the date for 30/31 day months and leap years), be prepared to spend at least $25,000. |

That's half the beauty of these watches...it lets you know you always got to spend a little time with the ones you love. This is my first manual watch and i don't think i'll ever go back to quartz. Just my opinion. |

Well the Breitling 19 in the Olympus and the Complications 19 only needs adjusting on the 29th February and that's a lot more reasonable. Although why the addition of the leap year support adds quite so much to the cost has always been beyond me. |

I would say it's because the leap year operation only occurs once every 126,144,000 seconds, so I would imagine that takes a fair bit of additional mechanical wizardry to account for that. That and a bit of a price loading for the exclusivity factor!

While I'm not expert, I would have thought it was simply the addition of a year wheel and associated display - more complex for sure, but the price loading is definitely a major factor when you consider the price usually more than doubles for a true perpetual over a semi. |

I'm sure there is a price loading, but in actually fact the semi-perpetual Navi Olympus I sold had around 250 parts, whereas the Navi QP had around 500. Obviously some of of those additional parts are involved with the seasons display, etc so not all are purely involved in handling the leap year...... but I bet a fair few are. |

I'm going to save myself from all that bother and go buy a ten dollar quartz watch at the local discount store. You'll never hear me complain after that...

Ah, close to what I was taught at school in good old England, the rhyming version................ 30 days has September, April, June and November. All the rest have 31 except for February alone which has but 28 days clear and 29 in each leap year! Stef |
