Idle curiosity - next gen Aerospace?

Post subject:  Idle curiosity - next gen Aerospace?
It seems like Breitling updates the Aerospace every 3-4 years. Any ideas or rumors on where they might go next?

Me, I really like the size of my Evo, but a return to lumed instead of polished numbers, and a solid minute hand would be nice. Oh, and a black dial that's really black instead of dark-ish gray.

I would like them to adopt a scaled down version of the B50 Cockpit SQ in house movement with charging and jettison the venerable but admittedly bit long on the tooth ETA based caliber 79. Batteries are so 1980s....

Be careful what you ask for. You've just added about $3k to the price tag for an Aerospace.

Why? I said a more basic function wise variant of the B50's in house movement. The Aerospace and all other ETA derived Quartz models are heading towards in house. Breitling has made it clear they want to start wining down from the ETA dependency...

And quite frankly, a new EVO at $4200 retail is not cheap either. For that money I'd like to see a bit more innovation being offered in the Quartz movement. Don't get me wrong, the ETA SQ are well proven and have served Breitling well for decades but the caliber 76, 78 & 79 are aging movements and made more obsolete by the advent of the in house B50/55 movements.

Battery life in the caliber 78 is particularly lousy if you use the alarm on a daily basis. One of the reasons why I sold my Airwolf.

Breitling has a fabulous opportunity to offer more refined HEQ movements and the charging ability in the B50/55 is a massive step in the right direction.

Would I like to see a solar or charging Aerospace with an in house movement? You bet I would!

I agree on the lumed numbers and solid minute hand. I sold my EVO just because of these shortcomings. Increased contrast on the LCD windows would be a plus also.

The in house movements cost more and, arguably, have more reliability issues than their predecessors. Breitling hasn't shown a great track record in the in house arena. The only reason they still use the ETA movements is because of cost and availability. I wouldn't hold my breath that a new Aerospace with a revamped in house movement won't have the same teething problems that other in house models have. And, you know there's going to be a significant price increase.

NVG compatibility of the digital displays has come at the expense of reduced screen contrast. I own a B50 and the movement and technology just leaves the old ETA modules in the dust. The contrast of the digital displays is amazing.

For current generation EVO I see the return of a textured dial, more colors and a fully lumed minuted hand.

Funny, I was sitting at an outdoor concert just last night around 21:15 and I looked at my Evo and thought "Gees, those polished numbers really ARE more visible than lume." :D Having said that, as far as lume is concerned, I'm not happy with anything other than radium. Or tritium in industrial quantities.

In addition, I really could do without the NV capability. How many of us, even pilots for heaven's sake, use NV? A nice contrasting illumination would be much more practical.

B50/B55 resolves the digital displays contrast issue quite nicely while retaining NVG compatibility
