Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I bought a breitling chronospace (1991 I think?) last year from chrono24. Turns out the watch arrived without paperwork and no contact from the seller when I tried. I thought it wasn't too much of an issue as I always wanted to keep it and wasn't bothered about resale. 6 months down the line the movement has broken, doesn't keep time and the internal face has become loose and rotates slightly. As you can imagine I was fairly annoyed but wasn't sure what I could do. Breitling quoted me £700 to repair, seeing as though the watch only cost me £750 I didn't think it was sensible.

I have thought about selling up as a faulty product, as I'm sure someone who knows what they're doing could repair and bring some life back into the watch.

How much do you guys think it is worth?? (Not a Breitling strap)

I'd sell it as is needing repair. You'll never get the Breitling fix cost out of it as the value (working) is about what you paid for it. Even needing work I think it would still sell close to what you paid for it on an auction site. These are pretty simple to fix and the ETA 988.332 can sill be found new online, if you look around a bit, for around £100. The fact the dial has rotated would be of concern since the movement itself can't rotate because the crown/stem keeps it in place so it must be just the dial. The dial has two dial feet in the back which keeps it in place on the movement holder. If whomever was in there last didn't properly seat the dial feet the dial can move. Would take me about a minute to fix and I'm not a watchmaker. So, you might want to see if a good local watchmaker can get this squared away for you since these are very easy to work on. We'll assume that the Breitling quote was honest and that it doesn't just need a battery.

OP, did Breitling look at the watch for that quote?



Given the unique bezel and chapter ring on the pictured watch, I think your price estimate might be a bit off

Apologies meant condition rather than unique! Photo of the dial and ring make them look quite faded? (Or at least on my phone at 3am they do!)

Not faded. Just the difference between a 1st generation Chronospace and a 2nd generation below. Larger lower display (different movement), inner bezel the same color as dial, and wording on the dial.
