Purchased my first Breitling last year (May 2015)... Super Avenger II Caribbean Edition. The watch "maybe" worn once a week in formal dress settings, not worn during sports activities, diving, etc. Three weeks ago, the crown would no longer screw in and stay (assumed the crown stripped). Sent the watch in after spending $80 US to ship it to Breitling, the quote came back:

Condition of the watch upon receipt: Bracelet Scratched, Bezel Scratched, Case Scratched, Crown Scratched, Crown Damaged - Completely disagree with this

BASIC SERVICE 220.00
Crown steel 72.00
Sub total excl. TAX 292.00
Shipping costs excl. TAX 30.00

Total: $322.00

Are you serious? $7000 watch, supposedly "manufactured to the highest quality standards and built to be rugged" can't withstand normal business dress wear? I purchased this watch over a Rolex... I will not make that mistake again... VERY DISSAPPOINTED...

Not to sound like an ass here, but a watch doesn't have to drop or sustain some major accident for it to break. There's a ton of tiny pieces in that huge case, and it's possible that things can break. They aren't going to honor the warranty?

I am meticulous with my watches, it's never been dropped or mis-handled... No, the warranty isn't covering the crown replacement...

I've only wore this watch with business suites and formal outtings... I was shocked when warranty wouldn't cover the repair.

That's my complaint... It's supposed to be "rugged" and normal usage results in a costly repair. Would you be "happy"?

Actually, I'm dealing with the same issue on my Super Avenger Military, it needs a crown replaced because the crown somehow cross threaded, and I'm being charged 450 because of the DLC crown. I guess what I was trying to say, is any brand watch can break, it's not exactly fair to consider all Breitling to be shitty, when it was just one incident.

I don't get the correlation of wearing a business suite and a cross threaded crown. You could have been wearing pajamas for all we care.

Did you accidentally cross thread the crown, yes or no?

if it was purchased in May 2015, why is it not covered under warranty? Did you send in the warranty card with it?

They are implying the crown was damaged due to negligence not manufacturing defect.

I have had this happen to watches before and have had it repaired under warranty, if there is no sign of impact, it should be covered as it's a common occurrence with the Super Avenger line.

They are going to mark down the slightest scratches as a scratch to protect themselves. I'm curious to see if the OP sent in the warranty card because if he did not Breitling is going to assume it's not under warranty.

I think they are implying negligence even in the presence of the warranty card.

No. The correlation is that I am not wearing the watch during any activities that would result in damage due to abuse.

This is my point... How could normal wear be considered "negligence".... Geezus, these things are supposed to withstand abuse and shock...

If that is the case, then Breitling should be ashamed and not stand behind the "questionable quality" of their watches. I have a $1000 US titanium citizen that I beat the hell out of it and have never had any issues... It's 15 years old and has never required service... I wear it rock climbing, scuba diving, flying, etc... It's scratched to hell and back and keeps working.... Flawlessly.

From Breitling's website: (http://www.breitling.com/en/models/aven ... venger-ii/)

"SUPER AVENGER II
The ideal companion for all manner of challenges, the Super Avenger II chronograph combines an imposing 48 mm diameter with a powerful and extremely professional aesthetic. Its steel case water-resistant to 300 m (1,000 ft) is geared up for the most extreme missions thanks to its rugged construction, its screwed-in pushpiece guards and its solid screw-lock crown with non-slip grip. The selfwinding chronograph movement is chronometer-certified by the COSC, the only industry benchmark in terms of precision and reliability based on an international standard."

I claim horse shite if Breitling is claiming "negligence" and abuse...

Either way, something isn't adding up.
