Post subject:  Transocean AR coating advice
I need some advice. I have a Transocean B01 with a 3mm scratch on the Chrystal.

My options are. Replace the Chrystal. This is very expensive.

What about removing the AR coating ? Is that an option ?

Please help ?

I had outer AR coating removed by a local watchmaker from an old Chronomat, because it was scratched and foggy (a crystal, not watchmaker :)).

It looked like a beauty after that - have sold it since.

So, it is an option if that scratch bothers you. You can always replace the crystal with new one later.

You can remove the outer AR coating with Cape Cod polishing cloth or Polywatch an acrylic crystal scratch remover. Both easily found on Amazon, etc....
Simple solution before you decide to replace the crystal.
You can always decide to replace the crystal later if you don't like it without the outer AR coating.

Emile, as Wes says; removing the outer AR is done in minutes, if u do not have Cape Coss yet you'll need and love them.
replacing that crystal is, as you know, absurdly expensive.

I had a planet ocean with damage to the AR coating -

I tried to remove the AR coating myself with cape cod cloths and made matters much worse so sent it to a local watch repair guy with all the polishing wheels and compounds and he polished the coating right off - charged me £90 (which included a quick once over to the bracelet and case) came back like a new watch, I would certainly consider this before looking to replace crystal

Thanks guys. I'm only way to a Breitling lab now. Going to ask them to polish the AR Coating off. I just hope the watch doesn't look cheap without the AR coating.

I'd be very surprised if Breitling agrees to remove the AR coating. However, stranger things have happened.
Part of their service protocol is to return your watch back with "as new" specifications and no AR coating is far from it.
Heck, I only had a tiny spec on my Colt crystal and they quoted a crystal replacement.
Having said that, it was an optional item but removing the AR coating was not an option.
Anyway, I know very well that a $5 tube of Polywatch and a little bit of elbow grease and the scratched outer AR coating is gone revelling a pristine sapphire crystal underneath.
The only way I could fail with this is if I had two left hands.

You are correct to be surprised. They recommended for me to replace the Chrystal over and over again.

Luckily the owner of the Breitling repair / service lab is a friend of mine and I convinced him that I would rather give the removal of the Ar Coating a go.

It took them about 10min. They tested the waterproof properties of the watch before. Remove the Chrystal. Polished the AR coating off. Re-fitted the Chrystal. Tested the waterproofness again. (That took another 10min). Returned the watch to me in the waiting room.

The Chrystal looks better than ever. Breitling has an AR coating on the inside and outside of the Crystal and I think one side is enough. In my opinion the watch looks even better than new (I know I'm a bit biased :).

I'm sure to the expert eye (under a magnifying glass) you can see the difference. To me it's looks like new.

I'm a happy man. They quoted me $640 for the Chrystal replacement.

Glad you solve the problem. Can't imagine a Breitling looking cheap even without outter AR coating :lingsrock:

P.S I also didn't remove the coating by myself, because I was not sure if I would damage the bezel by doing it.
