I assume everyone got the email this morning - http://www.breitling.com/en/models/supe ... ntent=text

"Superocean 44 Special

The ocean pilot

Black and white aviator-type watches ensuring excellent readability are well-known instruments and divers are now being treated to their very own “ocean pilot” featuring a black steel case, black ceramic bezel and a black dial bearing large luminescent indications enabling them to plunge safely to a depth of 1,000 m (3,300 ft). The art of combining originality and efficiency."

Nothing says "originality" like a blacksteel Breitling, but at least the bezel is ceramic.

It is a beautiful watch with the ceramic bezel. I happen to like the look of black steel, just not all that confident in its durability for cosmetics. I guess my obsessive compulsiveness would really kick up if I put a ding or a scratch in the case. I am hoping that one of you guys that has a black steel will jump in and tell me not to worry about the case finish.

I have the original Skyland, some wear on the edges, one ding that shows metal through, but considering the age no worse than a polished watch. Issue is inability to refinish.

I've got a Black Steel Chronospace and it's more like a Black Gunmetal Colour. Some Patina actually makes it look more Mean I have little fine scratches but you only see it if you look very very carefully.

I like it, but given the $5500 price for one with the deployant clasp is a little much when I can get a Tudor Pelagos with a bracelet, rubber strap, and an in house movement for much less.

Like it but what's with the cut off on the quarter hour markers with the numbers for 24 hour.

:yeahthat The Pelagos, or even more so the new in-house Black Bays, are a no-brainer in comparison IMO.

I think this Blacksteel SO44 is OK-ish (at best) if you're into the whole Blacksteel thing, but as CGS says (and as I also said before on here when I first saw the non-Blacksteel version) I can't stand the way the markers (and even the damn wings logo!) overlap the 24 hour track. I think things like that look really sloppy design-wise.

I actually like it better than the non-blacksteel version, and really like the ceramic bezel but the price is high (as others have indicated) and I also don't like how the quarter-hour numbers are cut-off. I'm assuming the ceramic bezel will make its way to some more pieces, which will be good.
