Hi! I am quite intrigued by posts which say how their watches now run "+6 secs/ day" from the earlier "+8 secs/ day".

How EXACTLY does one figure that out? What source of time is available (to a common everyday man) which would be accurate to the exact second to be able to compare my watch with and make such a statement?

Any internet source is bound to be off by a second or so depending on the server response time and internet speed.
Also, pls leave out the radio waves which some watches automatically sync with in the US. Not all of us live in the US.


Also, I saw a post - within the last month that explained how I could "adjust" or "fine tune" my watch by placing it in different positions when not in use. That post essentially was a cope of the post-service printout given by Breitling. But I could not decipher it.

So my Question is - How do I track the accuracy of a watch and what I could do to fine tune it (i.e. without having to take it to the AD for fine-setting)

Ill try to make this as basic as possible.
As Terry mentioned, time.gov is probably the best way to go. I like it because it tells you how accurate the time is based on your connection to their server. I assume that it has to do with the speed of your isp. When I go it it, it tell me im within 0.2 sec (you can refresh the page to get a better time as well). Anyways, synchronize your watch with time.gov and wait a week or so. Go back and check the time difference at the exact same time you started the test, and just divide it by the number of days. If youre not in the US, its fine, just set the local time but make sure that you sync the seconds with the site.

Your watch falls victim to gravity, much like everything else. Different positions affect every watch differently, so after one test of face up, so another week or so face down with the next test. So if you find that wearing it during the day is +4, and face down at night is -3, you can combine those two methods and end up with +1 every 24hr.

i use either 123 talking clock or my mates atomic watch as i sit next to him and it updates each day. my B1 has gained less than one sec since i bought it at biggin hill this year.

I use the US Naval Observatory, it is what the majority of the U.S. military uses for an accurate time source.

I have the numbers programed in to my cell and am told by my wife that I'm a little too obsessive when I call and sync my watch almost every day.
