My AD advice that every 4 years approx. I should send my ling for sevice he mentioned that breitling will take apart the whole watch for service and buff to new condition. Is this true? and anybody knows the cost for this? Thanks

Yes if it's a mechanical watch every 3-4 years would be advisable. I went into my AD, and they said with Breitling, the AD will send the watch away to Breitling, and they will give an estimate on the cost. You can then choose to go ahead with the work, or not, the estimate is free.

Well, yes, sort of.

I'm assuming that you have an automatic watch, and that has a lot of moving parts. Just like any other mechanism the movement of those parts causes wear. Over time this will affect the performance of the watch, and when you notice that the watch is no longer keeping great time it needs a service. I'd be tempted to say that it would be nearer 5 - 6 years rather than 4, but if you do a lot of diving then you may want it looked at annually.

The service will replace gaskets, relubricate the movement and replace any parts of the movement that require it either because they have reached EOL or because they show excessive wear. Breitling will also run your watch through an ultrasonic bath and give it a polish.



It will certainly look nice and shiny (assuming it's not Ti or brushed), but if you have deep dings and scratches don't expect them to disappear - and a five year service doesn't replace the need for regular cleaning and an occasional polish by you - apologies if that is obvious.

As far as cost goes, that depends a lot on the watch and of course what work ends up being done, but budget on around $500 as a ballpark.

I would say somewhere around the 5-year mark is fine, as long as you don't wait 10 year like most people do!
If you swim alot with your watch, the gaskets definately need to be replaced about every 3 years, to maintain the water-resistance.
Your mechanical watch is really like a car... it needs an "oil-change" every so many miles (kilometers)! Can you imagine how many miles in turns these little gears make? When the oils are dry, they start cutting like sandpaper, and these little pivots get completely worn out! Poor things! Don't you feel bad now? You better go get it serviced on time!

Suddenly I feel the urge to give my watch a bath in Mobil 1.....

Just got my estimate after my "sweat" messed up my Navitimer Olympus. $650! and it was bot 1/15/2004 and serviced in 05.

I just picked up my SuperOcean, which I purchased in 1997. I am ashamed to say that this was the first servicing it ever had. The PRO I bracelet also had a missing link, and was unable to be fixed, so I opted to get a black rubber strap to go with the black dial. The bezel also needed a new spring, unfortunately the bezel is now off-centre, so I will have to take it back. The tab for all that work at the AD was $365.00 CAD plus tax. which I did not think was bad at all for all the work done. The watch looks brand new, and the rubber strap looks incredible. Breitling really knows how to do the small touches. The strap is nice and thick, and the stainless steel clasp with Breitling logo gives the whole strap a very classy and tailored look. I would be proud to wear this watch - with rubber bracelet - to any occasion, dinner or function.
