Hi,

I have a Breitling G42 with an ETA based movement. The manual instructs to not adjust the date during 8pm and 3am.

I assumed this morning that the watch stopped at 8:30am and proceeded to adjust the date but the watch was in fact stopped at 8:30pm, not AM. Needless to say, I'm worried now. How immediate is damage evident in a situation like this?

Also, for next time I need to adjust and to avoid damage, can I just simply set the watch at 6:30 first, then set the date, then set the correct time?

if the watch still correctly changes the date when you manually advance it, there should be no issues.
re setting to whatever time outside the defined bracket, adjust date, then set time: yes.

Okay, I just did your test above. The date advances at 12:56. So far so good? Am I in the clear?

If it still changes through every date yes. 8pm is a bit of a safety margin anyway so you're likely fine. If the watch had run for another 30 minutes or so it could have been a very different story.

Just to confirm again... The date turning over at 12:56 is ok?

Yes, it would be getting stuck halfway through the date change if it were damaged.

Not necessarily. Depending on where the bent or broken tooth was it might just not change at all.

OP, 12:56 is fine as long as it's consistent, after the next service the hands will be replaced and it will likely change closer to midnight, it's just a question of handsetting in that case.
