I'm looking to buy my first Breitling.

But being a bit OCD, buying a used watch is not something that I would do personally.

However, the model that I want has been discontinued, but it's a model which ticks all the boxes for me. So buying used, is really the only option.

It's the Crosswind Special.

The particular watch I saw for sale was purchased brand new in 2005, so it's more than 11 years old.
The thought of how many owners the watch has had since then, and the build up of sweat and dead skin grime in the tiny crevices of the watch puts me off.

I really want this model, and wanted to know the best way to give the watch a deep clean. The watch has had a service in the last 6 months btw, so I wouldn't want to send it in to Breitling again.
Was thinking if a jeweller has any methods to clean a watch to "new" spec?

Well a case / bracelet can be cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner, but you can't do that with the movement in the watch. Likelihood is that it was addressed as part of a full service anyway, regular cleaning is generally recommended to be soft tooth bush with diluted dish soap - many threads on the topic.

When the watch went out for service, it would have been cleaned and polished to as close to new as possible. So, no worries about the years of funk. :)

Fortunately, your watch is very water resistant. Me, I take my watches in the shower with me and use a toothbrush to get into the tight spots.

Not necessarily. If it was a full overhaul, yes; if it was a maintenance service, no.
