Post subject:  My new to me Nav Chronospace
Hello all from warm and sunny South Africa.

Here is just a little note on my new arrival, and also a question of two.

So she is a 1999 model A56011.
So far I love the Navitimer type look, quartz accuracy as well as the size and slim profile compared to my Super Avenger.

She had no box and papers.. but i have the service receipt from 2014 from the Authorised Breitling Service Centre in Cape Town. I paid a small amount, about 500 USD if converted. Note however that a direct currency conversion is not ideal to get an idea, when we convert the other way around when buying in USA we find that the prices are about 50 percent more than our local market.

I thought I would keep her and not flip her because she is a Breitling after all, and i expected her to be cheapish to maintain. However i was just chatting to a watchmaker and he said to me the modules are expensive and they tend to fail.

My questions are...

1. Would you keep or sell? I have a willing buyer where i would close to double my money, but still what does 1000usd buy really that is as classy?

2. How reliable is the module?

3. Watchmaker said if module packs up and I am not insistent on a Breitling signed part, then a tissot module is available at a fraction of the price. This correct?

4. It obviously has a push down crown, and a 100m rating. So washing hands should be absolutely safe right?

5. I noticed the serial number has only 4 digits and that the end links are not solid. Is this correct?

Answers as follows -

1. Only you can decide that I'm afraid. 500USD is a tiny amount for a Breitling, so if you like it, then I say keep it.....but only you can decide.

2. I wouldn't say the B56 is overly renowned for being hugely unreliable. Granted it's getting a bit older now, but a mate of mine has the same Chronospace as yours and he's never had a failure in over 10 years of ownership. He does get it serviced but he's also never complained about excessive cost either.

3. Correct. The B56 is basically an ETA 988.332 which was found in some Tissots as well as a few other watches over the years. I believe (and I'm not a huge quartz expert) that the 988.332 was later upgraded to the 988.333, which should also fit I think (but do NOT quote me on that without doing some more research). 4. Yes washing your hands is fine with a watch with a 100m WR rating!

5. Couldn't tell you about the serials on these or the end-links, but looking at your picture then it's a perfectly genuine Chronospace you have there.
