Post subject: | Advice on buying a Chronomat GMT |
Hi Everyone, I am new to the forum and watches in general, I've actually never owned a watch and am looking at buying a Chronomat GMT tomorrow morning, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice or comments about the watch regarding its authenticity and a ballpark price range? It is for sale in a brick and mortar shop in downtown LA, and I met the owner today who has been selling watches for over 30 years and guarantees the authenticity of every watch he sells, so I doubt it's a fake, but it does not have papers or a box. It felt nice and heavy, but I didn't get that residual vibration feel from it when I moved it around in the same way I have with older Chronomat models. The blue specs in the images are from my phone and the overhead lights, I tried to upload better resolution but the upload kept failing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks! |

We haven't really talked price, I told him I would do some research and make him an offer on it if I was interested. Maybe 2k would be fair? I'm really not sure. |

2k is a steal, I'm sure you aren't going to get it for that.... It's definitely real though Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk |

This is the new model with in-house movement (quite different than the older models) and retails for about $9k on croc strap with pin buckle. |

You're looking at $4500 being a good price with box and original papers. |

Thank you for the help everyone! I was able to reach a deal on it with the seller and picked it up this morning. It feels great to wear and I was amazed at how bright the hands are, they seem to glow even when in a shadow or indoors. The seller was asking 2k for the watch, and we ended up reaching a deal at a few hundred less than that. Thanks again! Here is a pic of me wearing it, I will try and take some better pics of it soon. |

Yeah, I was a bit concerned about the price as well, but the seller is reputable in Downtown LA, and has a brick and mortar store etc. and I took it to a few other people who said it is real. I wish I could post better pictures here, but it seems to check out. |

Wow, you paid $1800 USD for the watch? That seems well under priced. Does it come with original paperwork? Can you post a picture of the back of the watch and is the serial number still visible? Seems very strange that a bricks and mortar stall would undersell themselves like that, they'd have easily and quickly got over $3000 on eBay. Hope all is ok with the watch as this seems way too good to be true |

I wish the site would let me post hi-rez pictures, but here is a shot of the back of the watch, hope this helps! There are watch shops every ten feet in the Jewelry district in LA, so maybe they just want to move volume and not hold out for higher prices? Tough to say, he is a very nice older gentleman who said he never wants to deal with Ebay or the internet in general. I figured it was safe to buy since I can go back to his store should something go wrong, but everyone who has seen the watch in person agrees it is real. |

I have no doubt it's real and it is beautiful...my concern is why so cheap so I wanted to see that the serial number was still there and hadn't been polished out. If all is 100% spot on with it, you may well have got the best deal on a Breitling ever. Congratulations. |
