Hello All, I have been a serious watch person since I bought my first Rolex (explorer 1) in 1990. Since then I have bought and sold quite a few watches.... unfortunately my funding arrangements have meant I needed to sell some watches to get the next big purchase. I have owned the following brands:- Rolex Omega Cartier Patek Philippe About a year ago I decided to STREAMLINE my collection..... I decided I would limit my collection to 4 good watches - I would prefer 4 good keepers instead of 2 premium pieces and 20 nothing special pieces..... With that I sold my Patek 3944 Calatrava because I could not get around having a quartz patek! I then decided to build my collection...... PIECE 1 - Rolex 16233 with factory diamond dial - Classic Rolex sports watch.... the world's most famous watch? Design excellence, instant classic, waterproof, yuppie symbol for pissing off people I hate, good symbol to show my Asian friends, 1 of my favorite all time watches. ALSO with Rolex Sports being so hot... the DateJust is very good value. I bought a mint used example for just over US$3,000- Admittedly that was from my friend who is a major dealer in Asia- timeman.net ![]() PIECE 2 - Omega Speedmaster Man on the Moon with 861 movement. Probably the most famous Omega in the world. Classic manual wind watch, plastic plexiglass, a watch everybody knows, VERY good for my BOND delusions!, classic Sports watch - the Mercedes Pagoda 230SL of Sports watches. Very good value for money. I paid around US$1600- for this peice with new style Speadmaster bracelet. I just bought the 1171 original style braclet and I love to alternative between these 2 bracelets.... I also love straps! Excellent value for money.... what else for so little has so much history, is a luxury watch and is so famous? ![]() PIECE 3 - Breitling Navitimer - Old Navitimer 2 After the Omega I wanted a watch famous for a beautiful dial..... the Breitling Navi - old Navi 2 with black dial and white eyes.... I love the whole Breitling family - the old air craft, the John Travolta things, the classic charm..... the Navi 2 is the most beautiful dial in the world! What a classic. Personally I think the Nav 2 at 42mm is big enough! I want a classic watch that will be ok once this bullshit LARGE WATCH CRAZE ends.... the navi 2 has always been large! I love the Breitling.... unfortunately I need 1 more link for the bracelet.... so I have fitted a yellow italia strap! (I LOVE STRAPS!) .... I paid just under US$3000- for the navi 2 from a friend,.... and that is with steel navi bracelet..... ![]() PIECE 4 - HELP ME! I can't decide.... I have a small inheritance coming my way soon.... I was thinking Rolex Day Date .... then I was thinking 2 tone Rolex Sub.... then I was thinking Explorer II ...... Perhaps a Patek? (but mechanical)..... ![]() |

Welcome! Nice collection you've got there. A dive watch might be a good addition as piece 4. Maybe something like a JLC Master Compressor, if you're looking at quality pieces? Just a thought... Or you could go for a dress watch, if you're into them. |

How about a Panerai? That is a classic brand with a nice history as well... >...that will be ok once this bullshit LARGE WATCH CRAZE ends Hahaha... I hope it never ends. OK, maybe watches over 50 mm is a bit of overkill, but personally I need at least 44 mm or they look like women-sized on me! |
