Post subject:  What do you love about Breitling watches?

I gotta start from what I like about mechanical watches. I believe most guys out there love technology and the things they could do. From the latest smart phone model to the most advanced DSLR camera, TV, car, blar blar blar....it's amazing how much they have advanced from just a mere 5 years ago. The problem is all of them requires electrical energy and no matter how much you spend to acquire the latest and most advanced model today, it becomes a piece of junk within a few years as it would have been replaced by another more advanced model by then. Even Quartz and Super Quartz watches are not spared. The old Emergency is a good example. Also there will be a day when it stops functioning and the company ceases to revive it. Mechanical watches are the only ones I can ever think of that are able to function 24/7, follow wherever you go, and work like electronic devices without the need for electrical energy. They last forever(with proper maintenance) and even after many years if their movements are no longer used for new models, as long as they still tell time within the expected accuracy tolerance, they are still "up to date" and the most advanced piece of equipment. I guess "timeless" if the word to describe. Beneath many of them lie success stories and patent that add worth to their values.

Chronograph is my favorite complication as not only it is useful for my daily life, it is the only complication that gives me the excuse to often press those pushers and operate the watch like a high tech equipment. Makes me feel like I am owning more than just a watch. Therefore my Grail has got to be a chronograph watch.

IMO When it comes to Chronographs, no other brand does better than Breitling given their contributions and inventions in the field of chronographs. Therefore I always get this feeling that I am paying for the originality of a Breitling chronograph watch.. Also I love Breitling's current logo the most among all the watch brands as not only it looks the best aesthetically, it reflects the brand's philosophy very well of wanting to be all rounded.

Whenever I walk into an AD, most brands have that generic common look and Breitling is one of the very few that often catches my eye other than PAMs. Many comments out there about how blingy Breitlings are but I don't see how a brand who specializes majority of their offerings on steel blings to the public. Just because many of their pieces are bigger sized with high quality polish doesn't make the watch bling IMHO. "Bling" to me is, "LOOK AT ME, I AM EXPENSIVE!". Rather I perceive Breitling watches as technical and high quality looking. They have this high tech and "more than just a watch" aesthetic appearance that I rarely see in other brands. There were times when I don't understand the direction that Breitling is heading. However slowly I began to appreciate and understand their direction although I still disagree on some. I started appreciating because I realized that Breitling is Breitling and not Rolex so they shouldn't try to be Rolex.

Despite many who argue that COSC is pure marketing gimmicks, I love the fact that 100% of Breitling watches are COSC certified nowsadays. After all they are instruments for professionals so their movements quality should be certified by a third party to be used for missions. It's like a student who gets a master degree doesn't necessarily makes a better manager, but employers out there minimally requires the certificate, before they even consider the candidate for leadership roles. At least by having a COSC cert if my watch runs faster at 7 sec a day or drops 5 sec a day, I have every reason to demand that the service centre checks my watch, especially if it's still under warranty.

Therefore, the brand's reputation in chronographs, original instrumental and technical high end appearance, their weighty feel on the wrist, their 100% COSC certification, are what I love about Breitling watches. Oh...not forgetting their renowned pilot bracelets and straps, arguably the best among all brands. Their wide range of straps make their watches generally more versatile than others. Breitling owners who wish to have more watches and varieties in their collection but lack budget have the choice to invest in straps instead to interchange for different looks.

I still remember clearly my original intention of just getting one classic model from different brands in my collection. However unknowingly I am already back to Breitling barely just after 2 pieces(Chronomat & Batman). Wanted to get a PAM but couldn't resist a Navi. I guess that's the beauty about Breitling watches although not all appreciate.

Although I have never really been a Breitling guy(had a colt ii Quartz many years ago), when they started producing their own in house movement and began refining their designs, I really began to appreciate them. I was never really a fan of their designs except for the Navitimer but passed on buying it a few times because of the standard movement. Lately, Breitling has gone back to more classic designs such as the transocean and the unitime and have refined many of their models which to me is very important if you want to be taken seriously as a Swiss watch brand!. I'm actually beginning to like Breitling again. I have owned dozens of watches from Rolex to Omega to many other Swiss brands but the itch for a Navitimer never went away. When Breitling came up with the Navitimer 01 43mm, I was excited but when I tried it on, I felt it was a just a tiny bit small for my 8 inch wrist!. When the 46mm Navi 01 came out and I tried it on in person, I knew it was the right time!. It is the Navitimer I've been wanting all along!. Here's my Navi 01 46mm....love this watch!!!

Great watches that although as well as being great tool watches at the same time I find them very classy. I like the weight and presence of all the watches I've had!

What I like most about Breitling: their connection to aviation. I don't only think about history. They actively promote aviation and, being aviation enthusiast and private pilot, I appreciate that.

Breitling Jets is one of the best jet aerobatic group out there.

I love chronographs too (for the same reasons you mention :) ) and Breitling mechanical chronographs are one of the finest. If I want more "bling" - I have a two tone Chronomat that attracts questions. If I want more of a tool watch - there is my Chronomat Blackbird - one of the most legible chronogaphs I ever saw.

Quality of the build leaves no questions - I've never had a single problem with my B'lings.
I still didn't have a watch with B01 - I'm not much of in-house mechanism guy, v7750 is tried and tested and easy to maintain, so its good enough for me :).

Breitling, also, has interesting watch case designs that I love and AR coating on the crystal is IMHO one of the best.

When I look at the Breitling watch in different lights or from different angles - it always plays with me, showing new faces.

What I also love about Breitling - wings on the face of the watch that make me grin :lingsrock:

Quality, wrist presence and the distinctive design features such as the rider tabs. I love the bracelets, especially the micro adjusters which gives a quick & easy adjustment for a perfect fit. I also love getting my watch back from a BUK service looking like new.......it's amazing what those guys can do.

I have a little bit different reason for liking Breitling. In truth, the world of automatic/mechanical watches is so full of good choices, it comes down to style and looks. You either like a particular look, or you don't. Where Breitling shines for me is that they've stayed committed to keeping a line of high quality quartz watches. The Aerospace, Cockpit B-50, the B-1, the current Colt quartz line up. That's what I think sets the company apart from the ConGlomCo families of brands. The only other company with a commitment to good higher end quartz watches would be Grand Seiko. And the GS doesn't "do it" for me like my Aerospaces.

I don't really love anything about them. Both of mine, 19 and 16 years old, have been a pain in the ass since I bought them. I still wear them regularly, though.

Even though they make their watches with basic complications, I feel they suit certain age and work lines very well. You don't necessarily need to own a patek or an AP at a young age to feel enthusiastic about your collection, IMO. When it comes to watches, it is luxury that you can wear and carry around every moment.

The navi, professional lineup, avenger lineup are all stylish. I feel breitling is a stylish brand for the masses with relatively affordable prices compared to the biggies! The aviation history only makes it feel better! :superman:

I have a soft spot for some Breitling models myself, especially the ones with minimalistic design (Colt, Seawolf batons, SOH, Transocean etc.). I really like the combination of uncluttered dial and chunky case, gives it a butch overall look somehow.

I love the feel and size of the watches and the way I feel when I wear them.

I take quite good care of them, keep them on the winder when not in use, and service them regularly. The just don't run well. Breitling service is crap, also.
