O.k. This is starting to feel like a daytime drama ! After much calling and emailing and frustation find myself at a junction. On one hand I can collect the 2000 SuperOcean Professional from the AD in Montreal where they are asking $800-900 for the dial + $400 +taxes for servicing and either bring it (less desirable a choice as the price of gas adds at least $100 to get to nearest city with AD) or ship it somewhere else for the servicing and dial replacement, hopefully at a better price....OR the seller is willing to exchange for 2006 Omega Seamaster Professional Titanium. I am kind of torn because ever since I was 14 I would walk by the AD in my little hometown and gaze longingly at the 'lings in the window and think of the day when I might have such a beautiful piece of work residing on my own wrist. However the additional cost of getting the SOP up to snuff (servicing and dial) is near what it cost to purchase. The Seamaster is only 2 years old, but doesn't come with any box, certificate, paperwork of any kind, whereas the Breitling come with everything up to and including the hang-tag and bezel cover. I'm trying to justify to my gf the addional cost of the Breitling over the Omega. I prefer the 'ling, but at 8 years old vs 2 for the Omega, box and papers for the 'ling vs none for the seamaster, and say at least $800 for the 'ling vs ready to go for the SM. I keep looking at photos of both trying to find something that would allow me in good conscience to convince the gf that one is a better choice over the other..... sorry for the long-windedness... but I really am not finding anything that compels me one way over the other.

I can say only one thing and I didn't get all the way through your post. What watch are you going to look at on your wrist and say to yourself,I really like this watch? I am so happy I picked this one. It is like buying a car you settle for, every time you write the check you wish you would have got the one you really wanted. I sold a used seamaster for 100.00 bucks once because of this very thing. It was a watch I settled for. I never mind spending the extra money for the watch I want because when I look at the watch I know it was worth every penny. If money is an issue look for a good preowned watch. They are out there, I have a couple watchs that I would have never afforded if I had purchased them new. Good luck!

Well I ended up sticking with the SOP. Part of it was the fact it came complete, and it was my "First" pick. And secondly the more I thought about the SMP I just kept being reminded of the popularity and how common it is in comparison. Really what I was disappointed in was 2 things, the poor service my gf received at the AD and the fact that the lume was in such poor condition. I have since taken it to a different AD was very pleased with the service I received there, although it looks like it may take longer, but worth it in my opinion.

Well your first choice is always the right choice. Always! An smp is a great watch, but every time I think of it I remember this old guy I saw in a beat up minivan with his arm hanging out with an smp. fwiw, it was probably fake, but I cant shake the thought.

For me, its substance over style... which isn't to say that the SOP doesn't have style, or the SMP doesn't have substance... its just what each of them evokes...SOP is understated, functional... the term "tool" watch to me seems pretty accurate. The SMP, well for me its not an old guy with one on his arm dangling out of a beat up mini-van, its James Bond, whom I always thought was very "cool" from first Bond movie I ever saw (yeah yeah I know the first Bond watch was actually a Rolex Submariner) but its the million other people who think its cool and want to wear one too. I have a friend with a Rolex...for him its a showpiece, another with a Omega who is too afraid to wear it on anything but special occasions, and another who wears a TAG on a day to day basis. So when I really thought about WHO I am and how I wear my watches, it really made it simple. Hard part after that was convincing gf my point of view was worth a thousand bucks LOL.
