Post subject:  NOOB QUESTION: What does ABYSS mean?

Hey so this it definitely a NOOB question but I can't find the answer anywhere. I am looking at buying my first nice watch and being a pilot I am drawn to Breitling. I am not really considering their aviation line as they are much too busy for me and I could never see myself using the features. I am torn between the Super Ocean 2 and the Colt Chronos.
So here is the question: I keep seeing some models listed as the Super Ocean (1/2) Abyss but they seem no different than the other models. Can someone explain this to me? What is the Abyss
To avoid any smart-ass remarks....I know what the term itself means but I want to know what it means in terms of Breitling and some of their models

I believe it doesn't mean anything specific. It's just a name add-on to make it sound cooler.

Just a model name used in the last couple of years. Trying to figure out BreitlingSource naming conventions is an exercise in futility, they use the same name for completely different watches over the space of just a few years. Welcome to BreitlingSource.

Same answer as on WUS.
My guess is that this was just a marketing spill.
The Superocean 42 (with the rubber bezel) was introduced in 2010.
It was first featured in the 2010 "Pure Breitling" catalog but no mention of the term "Abyss" back then.
There was no 2011 catalog.
First mention of "Abyss" appears in the 2012 catalog and it is with reference to the black dial in the 42mm model which is not different to the one in 2010.
It continues to be referred as "Abyss black dial" in 2013 and 2014 catalogs. Don't have the 2015 to check if they still continue that term.
No mention of "Abyss" with reference to the 44mm model.

Quick snap from 2012 catalog. Same wording in 2013 and 2014.

The term Abyss was a little confusing, agree with wessa's findings, and also,
here is text from the US 2011/2012 price list which describes all the colors as 'Abyss' :

The same description with the therm Abyss was repeated in the 2012/2013 price list.

Isn't it just a play on "deep"? Diving watch/ deep diving/ deep colours? I never saw any more meaning than that.

I bought my superocean abyss 42 in 2011, when I asked the AD they claimed it had to do with it being a diving watch rated at 5000 ft or 1500m, which they claimed to be the deepest offering they had for a dive watch, I guess it can go to the deep abyss?
