I just got a call from my AD (who is also a certified Breitling repair location) and the price to repair and refinish one of my SteelFish was $850!! And that is no bracelet, I sent it in with a Diver II on it. Seems like the last SteelFish cost me $560, but that was about 2 years ago I think.

I also noticed that where they used to have 3 full display cases of Breitling, it is down to 2 and moved out of the central location. I guess folks aren't buying Breitling like they used to.

I suppose it depends on how much work is done. I sent my three year old Cockpit in for a basic service about a year ago and it ran me about $165. The dealer sent it to Breitling Connecticut.

Have you asked for itemised breakdown of the quote?
That sounds like a lot.
Maintenance prices have gone up at my neck of the woods but by just under 10%.
A three hander overhaul here is quoted at less than half of what you have been told.
BTW, bracelet refinishing is included in overhaul service. Sending it in on a leather or rubber strap will not make the service cheaper.

They should be sending the itemized statements with the watch, next week. I asked over the phone and it sounds like 3 gears, mainspring, winding stem, ratchet for the bezel and refininishing (and various other parts). I am interested in the final list. I guess that might be what it cost for a daily beater that had seen a ton of rugged use over 4 or 5 years of constant wearing. I mean, I wore it almost everyday doing any and all things.

I had my Skyracer overhauled completely this year with a date wheel replacement and cost was $700.

AD will probably send it to Hangar 7 (B's service center here in US) and probably slaps their own markup on top of B's cost.

About 6 weeks ago I sent mine directly to Hangar 7 and Avenger M1 overhaul was $400ish (just received the watch)...

So shipping with $5k insurace was $85 + $400 for complete service kit + $180 for new saphire chrystal makes total $665

I could see that but all the work was done in house with their watchmaker. They are authorized to do complete movement and case servicing and give a 1 yar warranty but the price seems to have jumped $300 since the last Steelfish was serviced. I should get it in the mail tomorrow, so I will report back on the repair part list.

Got the watch in the mail today. Looks brand new, runs like new as well. That is a giant plus since it was sent in DOA. The charges breakdown is as follows:

Complete movement service
New great wheel
New second wheel
New third wheel
New mainspring
New gaskets
New bezel spring
New spring bars
Cleaned and refinished case

$850 shipped back to me with no tax (out of state).

Guess that is that! Now it's so good looking I might have to go buy a Oris to wear as the daily beater!

So, how much was each item?
Complete movement service - it should be part of standard overhaul fee.
Don't know about the great, second and third wheel .
New barel and new bezel spring should be part of standard overhaul fee, I think. It was for me at least in the past.
New gaskets - definitely included in standard overhaul fee.
New spring bars - I get them for free just for showing my face at the boutique or the service centre.
Cleaned and refinished case - definitely included in overhaul fee.

So, what were you charged for:
- standard overhaul fee?
- additional mandatory items ( the must do to get 1 year warranty)
- additional optional items ( nice to do but not necessary to complete the service and get 1 year warranty)?

If you did not get this type of breakdown than you should be asking questions.

Really doesn't sound like that much for a factory service? What am I missing

Does seem steep. Especially for a watch that cost around $2,500 new. This is exactly why I started consolidating a couple of years ago. A few nice watches is way easier on the wallet to maintain than several so mid grade (mid cost) watches. I will admit that my blue SOS made the cut and is IMHO one of the highest value watches ever made, but it is somewhat dissatisfying paying 40% of the value of the watch just to get it serviced. I will no doubt only service my watches when there is a problem.
