Post subject:  Service prices

I sent my chronomat evo of to breitling uk about a month ago via my AD and i have just got my estimate back which is £500 for a full overhall, £110 for exchange of hands, £65 for the broken crown and £50 for 5 x link screws so the total price is £725. I have told them just to go ahead with the work but what i would like to know is are the new hands not included in the the £500 full service overhall as the hands have to come off anyway and also what are link screws as im not sure how they can be damaged if they are what i think they are.
Thanks Stuart.

Hands are always quoted as additional items. I assume link screws are for the bracelet.

Really? I did not know that. So if the current price of an overhaul on a regular automatic is listed at BUK as £340, that's in fact £340 + £110 for the necessarily replaced hands = £450?

I guess that depends on the service centre.
I never got quoted for hands as an extra item, they were included in the listed service price.

Depends on the region wessa, but your experience is less common. It should be noted that hands are not always GBP110 or equivalent, it varies by model.

When I next have something overhauled at BUK I shall establish this and report back. Anyone else with recent 'overhaul' experience there?

What i dont understand is how they can quote a price of £500 for a full strip and overhall of my watch which meens the hands have to come off as im told they are a press fit so cannot be reused once they are off so surely the £500 should include the cost of new hands as they need to be fitted. Realy they should quote a price of £610 as the hands are £110?

I was hoping someone else who'd had a recent overhaul service with BUK would chip in on this. I was surprised by it as from previous comments I'd inferred that replacement hands were part of the package.

@ for example

There's someone who posted this quote in Feb this year:

'Necessary Work – Complete Overhaul
Exchange of Hands
ESTIMATE £375.00

Optional Work – Exchange of crystal – existing is scratched £90.00
Exchange of middle case – existing is scratched and dented £275.00'

- which suggested to me that the exhange of hands was included in that £375 overhaul price.

It looks better on the service list price if you don't include the necessary extensions (that you are probably going to be charged for anyway), doesn't it? Although you could get down to the level of say, £50 for a full service, which is taking the back off. Everything else afterwards is extra. . That wouldn't work, would it.

My SuperOcean had the hands replaced as part of the full overhaul cost. I know they fitted new hands as my seconds hand is of the newer arrow type not the original square & dot type.

I paid exactly what was quoted on their website even though it took 4 weeks longer than the 'estimate' to complete.

I sent my Aerospace in a couple weeks ago for service with Breitling USA. As per the estimate on the work order, the hands will be replaced at no extra cost. It's included in the price of the "complete service."

Ive been looking at a few watches from mark worthington jewellers on ebay who is one of the biggest breitling dealers in the uk as he posts photos of the service invoice in his photos on ebay and all the chrono evos he has for sale have had the hands their hands changed at a cost of £75 but on other breitling models the hands are included in the service price which i find a bit strange as they all have had a full overhaul. How can they be free on one model then charged as an extra on the evo. I also find it strange how he is charged £75 yet they are charging me £110.

I'm confused too. It does indeed seems to be priced inclusive in some people's services and not in others'.

They just seem to make the price up as they go along Tom.
