Hi,

I am hoping to get my hands on my first and long awaited Breiltling today... a Breitling Navitimer GMT :)

I've just tried searching the forum but did't find much info on setting up your Breitling from new, however i am sure all of this is in the manual and the jewellers will set it up and explain everything, but i'd like to know myself before hand.

01 - I presume the watch will be dead when taking it out of the box, so it will need to be wound 40 times to get it going?

02 - I want to get the watch insured before i start wearing it everyday, so do you have any advice on looking after the watch that will only be worn on the weekends (only for the next few weeks).

I'll take a few pictures and upload them later.

Lastly, thank you to all who have helped out with answering a lot of my questions over the last few weeks... i've wanted a Navitimer for the last 15 years, so very excited about getting it today, so thanks again.

The AD should set and wind the watch for you, if they haven't get them to do it before you walk out. The manual does contain instructions for setting and winding, but as the GMT is in house and has a longer power reserve it may take more than 40 turns to get to a full wind. It's an automatic so you can't overwind it.

In terms of looking after it between wearing I'm not sure what you are looking for. It will be quite happy sitting I. The box / on the counter / in a winder without any attention other than winding it to stop it from running down (assuming it's not in a winder). With the in house movement you will only need to wind it every couple of days or so.

The AD where you bought your watch from should have been able to answer your questions depending on your location in this world. If they gave not, they are not earning their commission ;-)
