I walked into my local Breitling AD to price a SOH. He told me they are selling the brand anymore but he's getting rid of old stock. He has an Aerospace he will give to me for almost 40% off. It's a great looking watch. I love the fact it's titanium and rugged as all hell. My only issue is its a Quartz... I feel like an a$$hole, and not sure when I became such a snob. But spending over $2k for a battery powered watch is hard to swallow. I just don't want to regret it...

The great thing about Quartz is the unparalleled accuracy. I haven't owned an Aerospace yet, although from what I've heard it's a favored piece. I have a Quartz Chrono avenger 69 and I've always felt the same as you about owning a Quartz. However I don't even think about it anymore, it's the only Quartz I have besides a Casio G Shock and it's in the regular rotation. It's great I never have to set it, it's always ticking away!

You may be right. Thing is... If it was a watch I didn't like the look of this would be easy. But after owning my Avenger for over a year now, I can see how nice a lighter and lower profile watch would be. I guess the idea of an expensive beater is what I'm stuck on. Also, I have a nice Tag and Longines I put into daily rotation, and am constantly annoyed when I have to reset the time every 3-4 days... Thinking something I wouldn't have to set may ne perfect.
Thanks for your input guys.

You go in for a SOH and come out with an Aerospace. Are you buying purely on price? If you have concerns on the Quartz then don't buy.

Price is definitely playing in the positive column, but I actually really love it's look. Just not sure if it being a Quartz will disappoint me later. I see advantages to having a battery, light, rugged titanium watch. Then I tell myself I can buy a quartz for much less that would serve the same person. Curious how other automatic watch owners feel or of I'm alone on this auto/Quartz nonsense.
This is a tough call...

I have an Emergency. It is my 'go to' travel watch... Nothing wrong with having a Quartz in the collection.. And and Aero is one of the best.

Thanks for all the input guys... I should know by now I need to follow my heart and not just a fantastic price tag. So I'm gonna wait a bit and do a little more shopping around before pulling any triggers. I'm definitely keeping the SOH white dial / blue bezel in the running, but I'm also gonna look at a few Omegas to maybe add one of those to the collection.

I get where you're coming from regarding quartz; I would like an Aerospace and the issue is not because it's a quartz, but how one can cost around the same as a finely-tuned mechanical? It's not a huge issue, and I will probably end up getting one, but it is something that plays on my mind a bit.

I know exactly what you are talking about.
I have one or two, OK maybe some more Breitlings in my collection and none are Quartz.
There is only one Quartz on my bucket list and that's the mighty B-1.

I feel the same but it's the ticking second hand that is my real issue with quartz watches. Since the Aero lacks one it became a non issue. I also bought mine from an AD losing their status and only got 30% off. 40% is a great discount. It's a great watch.

Frunkinator I'm the same as you; I love mechanical watches and haven't purchased a quartz watch for a long time. That said the aerospace is the next watch on my list, it’s a great looking watch but it is quartz. The way I get around this mental block is that there isn't and never will be a mechanical version of this watch and not having that option makes the choice a lot easier. Also with no second hand to worry about it's likley you may not even think about it when it's on the wrist.

Hope that helps.

Well done for not buying, you would have regretted it at that price point.

A friend of mine likes talking about the unparalleled accuracy of Breitling's thermo-compensated quartz movement. And my answer to him is always the same: a printed circuit has no soul.
