Post subject:  Breitling Chronomat 41 Winding Issues

Hi

I have received a Chronomat 41 as a gift.

When unscrewing the crown and winding, the winding of the watch feels rough and not smooth.

is this normal for this watch or is there a problem?

the watch is running fine

Regards

Rather difficult to diagnose without feeling it but it shouldn't feel rough. Take it to an AD and have them check it out to see what's going on. Welcome to BreitlingSource.

All three of my Cal 01 equipped Breitling watches wind the noisiest of all watches in my collection.
Comparing the winding feel between the different Breitling movements in my collection, I would rate them as follows:

Cal19 and Cal 40 - smoothest
Cal 17 - second runner up
Cal 13 and Cal 13 - third
Cal 01 - loudest

The smoothest of them all is the Cal 2507 in my Omega Seamaster, smooth as silk.
I often wonder if the crown stem is actually attached to anything and if it winds anything at all.

So, based on my experience I don't think there is anything wrong with your Chronomat 41 but do drop by your local AD and compare against other Cal 01 equipped models such as the Chronomat, Navitimer or Transocean Chrono.

I think I know what you mean because that was what I thought when I first bought my 01. The feeling and sound is like there is sand stuck in the mechanism when you wind it. It is rougher than normal. Therefore I don't think it should be an issue. However do check for the rest(chrono, time gain/loss) to see if they are working fine.

My Seawolf Avenger had this same 'rough' feeling which I (Think) you are experiencing.

However, my Spatiographe winds like butter.

Personally, I prefer the rougher feel because I can actually feel the gears turning and winding, feels more like a manual wind watch.

But as others suggested, best to get an AD to check it out.
