Post subject: | Super Avenger Military Issue with Setting Time |
Hello, I have a brand new Super Avenger Military and before I bought it from my AD they had it sent to BUSA for a check up to make sure it was working fine. Anyway, I noticed a few things that I want to make sure are ok since I took delivery: 1. When I unscrew the crown to set the time and the stem pops out to the first setting, when I wind it up to get the movement going there is very little resistance and almost no noise of winding. Is that normal on the model or the Super Avenger in general? I have a Unitime that is pretty noisy when I wind it. 2. When I try to set the minutes hand there is a lot of play in the way it moves. In other words, let's say I want to set the minutes hand to the 45 minutes mark and I go past it slightly, then have to move it back, but when I move the minutes hand back it is not responsive. Just seems sloppy. I can't get the minutes hand set to line up exactly on the line I want it to because I keep going past it since the action is sloppy. Any thoughts? What movement does the military version have anyway? |

Here is some info on the Military. http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... d_293.html The movement is the Breitling 22, shared with other 24 hr dial watches like the Cosmonaute and the Le Mans Bentley. It's normal for there to be a little play in the gears, and for the minute hand to have a little play in it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hi Matt thanks for the info. I guess I will have to go to the AD and compare it to a cosmonaut if I can find one? I know theee is always some play in the minute hand but it seems so sloppy to me it's unacceptable. Thr problem is it's not like the SA Military is in every AD for me to compare. Any one else have an SA Military they could look at now to address my two concerns above? |

Regarding your first question, it is possible that the SA winds smooth. I have an Omega Seamaster that winds so smooth that it makes me wonder if it actually winds anything inside at all. My three Breitling Cal 01 watches on the other hand wind a bit on the noisy/gritty end of the "spectrum". The Unitime movement is based on the cal 01 hence it is likely to feel a bit noisy. With regards to the hands sloppiness, I'd pay your AD a visit and compare with other watches. If yours is significantly sloppier than others, get them to send it in to BUSA to sort it out. There is no reason to be dissatisfied with your watch having spent all that brass on it. |

My SA2 (assuming it shares the same mechanism as yours) also has sloppy minute hand setting. It took numerous attempts to set the time at varying "slop settings". |

I have an SAII Mil LE - winding makes no noise at all - almost as I'd expect and no different to my SW or SO. As for setting the minute exactly, there is a small amount of 'slop' in the stem, but nothing different from my other non-quartz Breitlings. Overall I cannot really tell any difference from the SO, SW or the SAII in winding or setting. |

The regular SA and SA2 both use the caliber 13 whereas the MSA uses the 22. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think I will just take a trip to my AD and play with some SAs and see if the minute hands are just as sloppy. Ha, we just coined a new term for watches: "sloppy minute hands". Could have so many other connotations and hidden meanings too!! |

All mechanical watches have play in the running train - it prevents the running train from binding and allows the watch to run. It always looks worse on minute hands because the tips are further away from the pivot and it always looks worse on larger watches like the SA because hands are inherently longer. |
