Already own a navitimer a22332, went to Breitling London flagship store last week, and absolutely fell in love with this http://www.jurawatches.co.uk/collection ... ch-btl-474

Navitimer 1461 48mm black steel, limited to 1000 pieces, my question is would this watch increase or decrease in value over the years??
Basically if it increases my wife is happy for me to purchase, if not then I'm not allowed, lol

it clearly won't, sorry. in the contrary, all 1461 seem to hold value worse than most other models.

no new Breitling have investment potential.

None of them.

The closest would be whichever of the currently under appreciated vintage pieces becomes popular next, and who knows what that will be.

Watches in general, and relative high volume massed produced watches in particular, should never be considered investments.

Truth be told if you are buying a piece that will hold it's value most SS Rolex models and almost all Patek models is what you want to look at.

IMO breitling is like the Acura of watches.

Yeah I've done a bit of research and breitlings do not hold value, think I'll wait and get a used blacksteel in a couple of years.
May go for a ceramic Rolex submariner, seems to be a popular choice for an investment/non losing piece.

Honestly if the value is your main concern you really can't go wrong with buying a used Rolex subc. You can get them around the 7200 range in amazing condition.

But if you're looking to actually make an investment out of your watch get ready to unload some serious coin. And I'm not talking about 30-40k.

As others have said, you're infinitely better off thinking about buying watches simply because you like them, rather than trying to second-guess the value of it in a few years.

You're best to think of watches like cars : simply driving a car off the forecourt will effectively lose you money. So it is with watches. Obviously there are some very rare and desirable cars that will appreciate (or at least hold their value) over time, but no-one really knows which ones will and which ones won't. Just like vintage cars - again, some are worth a fortune (that no-one realised would happen when they were first made), while others slip into undesirable, rust-heap obscurity. Yes a Submariner may hold it's value a little better some others, but not by much and it'll still lose money as soon as you wear it : while they're desirable, they aren't exactly rare, so they're never going to be hard to find!

So again, my advice would be to buy watches because you like them, and forget about the outlay once it's made. That way, if you just happen to pick up something that becomes the rarest of things (i.e. an appreciating watch!) then you'll be pleasantly surprised. And if it doesn't you won't be disappointed.
