I have decided to buy my wife a chronomat 44 (CB0110) for our anniversary, rather than a Rolex! She like big watches and can carry it off. I managed to strike a deal with my AD when I went for my Transocean. However there are a few minor issues and I would value you help to sort them out, before I give her the watch. Although the watch is new with sticker on case back and no scratches, I notice some oxidation/discolouration around the rose gold bezel and pushers. There are small patches where the gold is in a darker shade than the surrounding. I wonder what is the safest and easiest way to get the bezel and pushers into an inform shade of gold. I assume the crown and pushers are solid gold, or are they plated? The watch has the pearl dial with gold roman numerals and I notice the dial is slightly more expensive than dial with the batons. Is there a reason for the price discrepancy? My main concern is what paperwork should come with the watch? My AD could not locate the box yesterday and I had a call today to say that it has been found. It is a bakelite box with an International Warranty that has been stamped. There is nothing else. My AD said the chronometre certificate is lost and he will request one. So what else am I missing? I think there should be an instruction booklet too. The International Warranty only covers 2 years but the Breitling in house movement has a 5 year warranty. I had an addendum with my Transocean (Is this required for going back to Breitling?). Pushers and crown are neither solid not plated, but capped / rolled gold - a laminated sheet over a steel core. The crowns are thicker sheets than they used to be but not solid. Now gold doesn't oxidise, so something odd is going on there, some kind of staining or failing in the laminating process maybe?? The COSC certificate can be replaced by the AD so no issue there, there should be an instruction manual for the watch as well as the box and warranty. The key to the warranty is going to be the original receipt so as long as you keep that you'll be good for the 5 years. |
