hi recently purchased my chronomat with brown crock strap and mop dial for the bargain price of £2450 uk In the book with the watch it says not to wind back time between 8pm and 3am I'm confused does that mean I can only go forward or neither and also why is that (pics will folow tommorow night) any replies would be greatly appreciate oh and it feels good to be a proud owner of the finest watches about imo.

Not harmful to change time than. Just don't use quick date set function between that time.

Like bnewbie says, as long as you avoid the quick set date function between those times you should be fine.

also was just curious if I unscrew the back to look inside will I do any harm

While you'd be unlikely to do any really harm unless you start touching things in there, I'd still strongly advise against it. If you watch any of the Breitling manufacturing process videos you'll see that the watches are assembled in very clean, atmosherically controlled workshops (almost like labs). If you open the caseback you could potentially get dust in there, or moisture or whatever.... all of which could affect the accuracy of your watch. Additionally unscrewing the back without the correct tools opens up the possiblity of slipping and then putting great big scratches on the case-back. Lastly, in an ideal world you should replace the gasket with a new one everytime the case-back is removed to ensure water resistance..... something which you won't have to hand.

If you want to have a look inside an auto, buy a cheapy just for the purpose, otherwise I'd say leave well alone as far as your Breitling goes.

and it would not be pressure tested. Nothing would ruin your day like a leaky watch.

If you really want to see inside then an AD will have his watchmaker pop the back for you and take some pictures (you may not be allowed in the watchmaking space because of cleanliness rules).

Please, just settle with the Breitling instructions videos. Even if it doesn't go wrong and you manage to get it water tight, the risk just isn't worth it.

If your not confident about your understanding regarding the of the way that the mechanism on your chronomat works, then stay with the certainty that,if you wind your watch in the conventional clockwise direction, no damage will occur.If you do move the hands in the opposite direction,there is every possibility that the internal mechanism will be damaged.If in doubt go to a registered Breitling dealer.It doesn't matter if you go to a genuine Breitling where you didn't purchase the watch,they are obliged to give you every expert attention.

Hi, guys. Well, not quite. The caution was inserted into the manual for a very good reason and it has nothing to do with the quickset date function per se. It has to do with the cam design for advancing the date wheel. Of course the date wheel is adjusted to advance as close to midnite as possible but the 24 hour initiation cam begins to ramp up prior to the wheel advancing ("clicking" over). Erring on the side of caution, the recommendation to not move the hands backward during the very coarse date change adjustment window is a good one because of the possibility (although slight) of damage to the mechanism.
