This has recently caught my eye.

What are people's views on this - I hope to see one in an AD at some point.

I see its titanium which will keep the weight down and that it is 48mm but I can't find any info on the depth of it - assume thinner as titanium and certainly looks quite thin in depth from the perspective of the photo's ... but I may be wrong.

Any thoughts or input appreciated ...

It looks awesome but I don't know about the size... Maybe too big for me. I'd like to see it in person too.

Seems like Breitling is trying hard to get get black steel versions on the market. Personally, I am not a big fan, but I do like the military strap.

Does anybody know where I can get my hands on one? Or, are there aftermarket straps that have the same look and feel? :)

I could be wrong here, but the website lists the case material for the Avenger Blackbird as "black titanium", compared to the Chronomat GMT that lists it's case material as "Steel, black steel". I've read some less than favorable things about the durability of black steel, but this seems to be different, hopefully for the better.

This is probably one of the only black steel models I do like. That said I don't know why breitling keeps making these watches so big. 48 mm is way too large for most buyers.

I could be wrong, but the case looks suspiciously like or similar to the avenger II Seawolf, so could it be 18.4mm?

You are right though. They have not shown the thickness of the black steel on the Breitling website. There may be a slight difference here as there are some other details that are (to my eye) different no the black steel. Not sure if this helps.

Anyway, it does look pretty cool, however that black steel finish does nothing for me. The pain of scratching it!

Thanks Guys .........

I guess the black steel either does it for you or it doesn't.

I am drawn to them and some of the previous models - but most have tended to be limited editions and stock runs out quick.

I liked the previous seawolf black steel with the yellow highlights.

This is cool and the titanium case is a novel twist, especially if it makes the watch depth thinner.

I don't know how 48mm will look on my wrist, but if the case is thinner, then this may help - so I will need to see one and try one on.

Black steel feels like an itch I need to scratch and I am literally currently pondering a new watch so the timing is spot on.

I use both Morellato cordura strap (black) and Hadley Roma cordura strap (tan).

HR is one of the most comfortable straps I ever used and is somewhat beefier than Morellato but black Morellato looks better on my Breitling Chronomat Blackbird so I wear it daily. Sorry, no pics right here (I'm at work :))...

Both come in other colours also and can be found on 'bay.

Watch is titanium, coating is essentially the same - Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) applied using the same process as with steel.

Ah, Cordura. That was the keyword I needed to get these things to pop up in my searches! Makes perfect sense now, but as a non-American, it can take a while before one learns about which brand names has taken on a more generic use of the word :)

The thicker HR Cordura straps looks really nice!

About the coating, can the titanium underneath become visible if the watch is scratched? Through wear?

Fairly scratch and wear resistant but dings will cause the metal to show through as it is just a thin surface coating.

I think it looks great, but seems really expensive compared to a Seawolf. And I'm assuming it's a thinner case because of the 300m WR.

I love mine, it wears very comfortable and is not too thick. :lingsrock:

I have it on an OceanRacer with folding clasp, I think the Military is not for use in water.
