| Post subject: | my Breitling is gaing time! |
Hi, i have had my Breitling B 2 for about 1 month. It is stunning and has been working perfectly until this morning when i woke up and it had gained 1 and half hours. I reset the timebut it is gaining ime rapidly. My friend said something about only adjusting the time at certain times of the day but not sure. Could anyone please tell me what the problem might be? Thanks |

That's a helluva lot of time.. since you've only had it 1 month it is still under warranty.. so take it back and have it fixed! Watchmakeress might be able to shed some light on it but that kind of time gain is nuts. You can adjust the time any time. Just don't adjust the date between 8pm and 3am. |

This has been discussed in plenty of threads before. Its 8PM and 3AM, not just 8 and 3. Date change occurs at this time, so you can possibly damage the watch. |

This is correct. There is a soft brass toothed wheel driven by the hour wheel which engages with the teeth in the date ring (the part with the date numbers) and changes the date at midnight. During the hours 8pm-3am that tooth is coming in and out of engagement with the teeth of the date ring. The winding crown has a separate quick change date changing mechanism so if the date is changed by this during these hours then the gear teeth of the regular date changing wheel will be stripped as it will be forced round by the date ring. |

No, the date mechanism on every analog watch is driven mechanically, so with quartz watches this is the same, altough if your date changes instantly, you don't have to worry about setting the quick-set on a certain time, it doesn't matter, because the tooth of the date wheel isn't engaged before the date actually jumps. Thanks The problem can be 2 things: The most likely one is that your watch is magnetised. This can happen if your watch gets exposed to any magnetic field (like X-rays) the most common one nowadays, is your cell phone! Do not store your cell phone and your watch next to each other on the night stand, because this can happen! Secondly; the hairspring in your watch might be "hung-up", meaning the spring is tangled (this can happen with impact). Either way it's an easy fix, so just take it to your watchmaker, and they should be able to take care of this immediatly, without sending it back to Breitling. Good luck! Vanessa |
