Does anyone know if the helium escape valve on the B1 is real or is it just for looks?

Hi Bob,
That is not a helium valve at all on the B-1... it is a pinion gear shaft bearing cap... it allows the bezel to rotate the inner bezel for the slide rule. There are several models that have that.
