Post subject:  The difference between models...

I originally got hooked on brietlings by a local AD who showed me a whitefaced chromomat evolution. Since then I have spent hours snooping these forums, along with others. I am getting close to making a purchase; however, and uncertain about differences in modles.

For example I can get a Breitling Aeromarine Chrono Superocean Steel Black Strap A1334011-B6-428X for $2400 brand new or a Breitling Chronomat Evolution Steel A1335611 for $3600. Both have black leather straps, why is there a $1200 price difference?

I am thinking that a Breitling Windrider Chronomat Evolution with black face and white dials for $3800 with a ss bracelet is a great buy as well.

Also, why are the super avengers so well priced for being such a large watch? (Breitling Aeromarine Super Avenger Steel Black Leather Strap A1337011-B6-441XA for $3200)

My dream watch is an evo with black alligator strap, black face, and a diamond bezle (same as ron's) however, can I pull off the same look with a much cheaper SO?

Thanks

The chronomat has screw down crowns, but it sounds like youre starting to become familiar with the strange pricing structure.

Most will agree with you that the Super Avenger may be the best value for a chrono. The steelfish might take the cake for a non-chrono.

Now if we can only figure out why the Bentleys are so expensive...

Because they say Bentley on them.

The Chronomat (EVO) is an awesome watch and every good Breitling nut should won at least one.

The Super Avenger ( my therory) is price that way because inthe world of people who buy luxury watches that Giant Monster doesnt suit everyones needs or wrist for that matter. It is sucessfull but I would think that the 42mm range Breitlings way out sell the SA's.

I have to strongly disagree with this. The quality and finish on a Bentley is much better. Hold a 6.75 next to a SA and tell me you dont see it.

Turn the crown on a Bentley and on a SA also, the difference is quite noticeable.

That is true but the name Bentley does not come free : Breitling must surely pay them a substantial fee to use it and that will be calculated in the price of the watch.

I agree with both Altair and Gert. Yes Breitling must pay a premium to Bentley as it seems Breitling get more out of the relationship than Bentley do - (for example, Bentley have never made a Breitling car! And they seem to make less of the relationship.) - so yes some of that price must be passed on to the consumer. However I also agree that the workmanship that goes into a Bentley is definitely greater than in something like the SA. I own both types, so I don't have an axe to grind either way, and the finish on both is impeccable in my eyes..... the Bentleys just have more of it.

Definitely agree, but will go further. Bentleys are engineered better. Here is a really simple example.

The threaded tube for the screwdown crown on something like an SA is integral to the case - strip the threads and you are out of luck or facing a bill for a new case. In the case of the Bentleys the tube is a separate component - strip the threads and you still face a hefty bill to have the tube replaced, but nothing like the cost of a new case.
