Thanks to the great information here, I was able to learn that some of the early Super Ocean Professionals shipped with mineral rather than sapphire crystals. Right now I'm looking at one that was purchased from an AD in 1999. Is there any way to tell/surmise from the S/N what type of crystal it might have?

From what I know, the mineral crystal pieces were model numbers A17040 and A17340 with 1000M on dial.

The sapphire pieces were years 1999-2002 with model numbers A17045 and A17345 with 1500M on dial.

Thanks! This one says "5000 FEET / 1524 METERS" on the dial and "1500M" on the caseback, so I guess it's a winner.
