Post subject:  Breitling Basel Summary...

So after spending the last 5 weeks in warmer country, back to cooler temps. and trying to put together all the Basel news. It seemed to come out this year a little fragmented, but this is what I've come up with and my thoughts in summary. I'll be brief.

Breitling announcements: some not official, but photos have surfaced...

1) Chronomat 30th Anniversary Airborne - Nice looking design with a better bezel and filled in hour markers, vintage/cream lume, and new strap option. I like it!

2) Navitimer 46mm - kept with original design, should do well with the larger wristed folks.

3) Navimer GMT 48mm - quite large but may find a few takers.

4) Colt Auto., Colt Quartz, and Colt Chrono Quartz - Nice to see an Automatic back in the line up, should do well. At 44mm may miss some customers but may also pick up some new. Overall an improvement over the previous design. Quartz versions are back toward original designs and should provide entry level pricing.

5) Cockpit B50 - right idea and nice design but price could be a limiting factor.

6) Avenger Blackbird (48mm) - quite large and confused on the name.

7) Navitimer 1461 Blacksteel 48mm - no comment

8 Montbrilliant 47mm Blacksteel - no comment

9) Transocean Chrono Boutique edition - interesting color and like the sub-dial layout.

10) Chronospace - just seen a couple of pics, no info. on size, dial colors, etc.

11) Steelfish Chrono - is it real ? need more info.

May be others?
Overall, some good pieces and think the Airborne, Navitimer 46, and Colt line will do well.

On a side note, although I'm not a Rolex fan I think the new Sea Dweller was a great move. One of the only Rolex models that I would even consider (diver, date with no cyclops).

Any more news on the new models, please let us know. Thanks.

Interesting to see that there is no sign of the Superoceans and Colts being mentioned on Breitling web site. All the rest are there already.

I tend to agree largely with your summary Terry, which is not surprising given we have similar tastes and wrist size. The three models I'm genuinely interested in acquiring are the SeaDweller, Airborne, and new Colt Auto. All the Nav's etc, are just way too big for me but I think they will do well with the broader market (with some exclusions), and others are just simply out of my price range. I think it's been a very good Basel - for me plenty of pieces from Breitling, and other manufacturers, that have also grabbed the eye.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but Govberg actually got in a preowned Blacksteel Navitimer 1461. It looks pretty nice in their pics, but it's still one I'd need to check out in person.
