Post subject: | New Navitimer 01 - Defective after 2 weeks |
After drooling over the Navitimer 01 for 16 months, I finally decided to drop the $$$ and take one home. I went with the classic black and a Navitimer bracelet. After two weeks, I'm have two issues... Issue 1: The piece runs about 11 seconds fast/day when on my wrist. And 5-10 seconds fast/day when resting depending on how I position it. On average (between wrist and rest), it runs about 9 seconds fast. That's 3 seconds outside of COSC specs and over one minute per week. It's been running at this rate consistently since day 1. I'm impressed by the Precision (very repeatable) but underwhelmed by the Accuracy (constantly wrong by 9 seconds). I imagine a simple regulation would solve the issue. However, every AD refuses to work on it as it would void my warranty. They'd have it send it back to BUSA. Issue 2 (as of today, 2 weeks in): The chronograph began to malfunction... The Start/Stop button now acts as a Start/Reset button and the Reset button does nothing! That is, pressing the Start/Stop will at first start he chronograph (normally) but pressing it a second time actually resets to 0 and it stops! Of course it should stop, but it should not be resetting! Nothing I tried gets me out of this cycle. Has anyone ever seen this? Here's a video clip showing Issue 2: http://youtu.be/M-i5XUaF1bM I'm planning to go back to my AD tomorrow to see if they'll just take the piece back (in exchange for another) since it's so new and has two defects. Needless to say, I'm VERY disappointed with my first Swiss timepiece. Any advice? |

Issue #1 really isn't an issue. The watch is new and is still settling, it may well take a few weeks to get within COSC specs so I wouldn't be remotely concerned about that yet. Issue #2 is a reset problem - the reset mechanism hasn't released properly which is why it is resetting when you stop it. That does require Breitling attention and will be addressed under warranty. Is #2 common or was this somewhat of a fluke? |

I bought a Navitimer 01 LE (Blue Sky edition) last September. It was slow from day one. In January I timed it against the USNO Master Clock and it was losing 12 sec per day. I was pissed. So on 25 January, I sent it in for warrantee repair after a long 8 weeks, I just got the watch back this weekend. It is now slow by about 3 seconds per day which is just within COSC standards. I hate that it is still slow because I would prefer if it is going to be off, that it err to the fast side. Anyhow, I have decided that I am just going to live with it because I do not want it out of my hands for another 8 weeks. I too am disappointed by the inaccuracy, particularly since so many have attested to the accuracy of the B01 movement. Still, It is a very nice watch, a relatively small limited distribution (only 500), and looks fantastic. I am keeping it and enjoying those aspects. Still worth the money for its uniqueness. It is technically within COSC specs. |

There have been chronograph issues reported for the in house movement, but this isn't one of the usual problems. dbkurjan wrote: It is technically within COSC specs. And its still settling after service, it will continue to adjust over the next several weeks. |

If you leave the chronograph running does it ever just freeze even after being fully wound? The whole watch I mean. That has been an ongoing issue with mine unfortunately, back at BUSA right now, yet again, for the same issue. I believe I've read a couple other posts on here with the same issue on the Navi 01. Hate to say it but I'm starting to lose my faith in Breitling. I'm honestly looking into swapping for the crown. Good luck, |

Good luck, If the entire watch is stopping (and assuming that the power reserve hasn't run out) then it is likely an issue with excessive friction in the movement. The chronograph adds more than just time for obvious reasons and if there is a problem with insufficient lubrication, a pivot that hasn't been polished properly or some kind of foreign object in the movement then it could cause that. If the problem recurs after service attention as you imply then I would be inclined to believe that it's an issue with something in the movement itself - a pivot say. |

I'm sorry to hear about your issues. I've been plagued routinely with chonograph problems on my Chronomat 01. Many others have also had issues. However, your specific issue is the first I've heard. If you send it back to Breitling, be prepared to part with it for at least a month. It's very frustrating. |

My AD was kind enough to order a replacement so I don't have to wait for it to go back to BUSA! Crossing my fingers that the next one is trouble free. |

*UPDATE* I revceived the replacement earlier this week. After the first 12 hours, I determined... 1) It ran just as fast as the first watch. 2) The minute totalizers we're misaligned on the chronograph 3) (this is rediculous) - The start/stop button malfunctioned again (after maybe 10 start/stop cylces)! Stop button would auto-reset. I took the watch back to my AD and needless to say they were truly shocked to see this same unusual defect a second time. We were convinced the watches were accidentally mixed up but they double checked and we're 100% both watches had the issue. They were gracious enough to give me a third piece on the spot! I've had the third watch now for about 24 hours and so far it is PERFECT. Runs about 2-3 seconds fast (so far) which is well within COSC standards, everyting is perfectly aligned, and the chronograph functions correctly. Crossing my fingers that this one is rock solid -- I really do love this watch but I'm definately not willing to try a fourth time. It seems to me that Breiting has a QA issue and perhapse a bad batch of watches out there. Maybe there's a defect in their processing somewhere. I find it highly coincidental that I had the same defect in both watches. I must say, my AD had been extremely generous! Anyone looking for a good store in the Phoenix, AZ area... PM me and I'll send you their way. Exceptional customer service! |

That is unreal. Good on your AD for handling the issue. Breitling definitely has some QC issues that need to be handled. I can#t believe after this long they're still putting out defective pieces. |

Not that this should matter, but are you giving it time in between pushing the start and stop button, or just hitting it right away i.e. start / stop? Just curious... |

Both watches did this the first time after clicking stop with the chrono running for > 10 minutes or so. |

I would have been happier if the new watch was running too fast for COSC. That's a new watch that needs to settle so over the next few weeks I wouldn't be surprised if it started getting closer to -4 per day. |
