Just watched it... Is it just me, or are they getting into more and more overstated propaganda lately? I.e. "Only Breitling know how to make a pilots watch".... "Jet man flying with jets rivals landing on the moon" Still an enjoyable video version of parts of The Book though. |

I really enjoyed that actually. Great little film, especially the bit about Willy Breitling continuing to supply cockpit dials to the Allies during the war. I never knew that part of the Breitling story. That said, I notice they cunningly missed out the "we went out of business for a while" part, and I did genuinely laugh out loud at the, "Some people believe that jetman flying with jets rivals landing on the moon" line!  Hmmmmmm, are you sure about that??? After all, flying a rocket 384,400km through the harshest environment known to man, and then safely landing human-beings on another celestial body before bringing them back alive, IS highly over-rated as a technical achievement! But that aside, it was a very enjoyable little film. |

Agreed -- very enjoyable. It was also instructive -- next time I need an alibi, all I have to do is head to a bar, pretend to be drunk, get in a fight and land in jail for the night!

Have to agree Fred, reading through The Book it struck me as to how many truly stunning watches Breitling made during the late 40's-early 70's. Brilliant to see the Top Time resurrected recently, and would be great to see more of their watches from the 60's in particular find new life. |

Hmmm... A kin to Rolex's Ad Campaign: Highlighting Innovators And Rolex Wearers. Instead of naming names of important or popular celebrities, Breitling focused on the events and the people around the current company they sponsored and the current and important models they have. The history of the company was a brief cufflink to the watches. Nevertheless, I enjoyed watching. For the rust of the facts and models in their history, only time will tell if new Breitling will try to focus on their lost history and do the hard work to find it. |

One of Bernard Baruch's adages might be apt:- “when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” I think that looking through the back catalog is only good when the time is right for a reintroduction, when its good for sharing, exposure and hopefully - sales. Surely as night follows day, it will have a life of its own and then peter out. Maybe not, but that seems to be the way of things. Not sure about anyone else but for me, an original idea is the attention grabber. As for the Bicentenary, the bragging that Breitling might well do will come from making strides and not looking too intently backwards. At least I would like to think so. IMO there is a place for heritage but it would be clever if that were subtle. No clear answers, just a POV. |
