Post subject:  Price Discrepancy

Whats up everybody. I am in the market for my first Breitling. I have wanted a Super Avenger for a number of years, and I am now ready to finally bite the bullet and buy one. I really like the Super Avenger II with the black dial and black sub dials. My question is why is there such a discrepancy in price between retailers in the mall (Tourneau etc...) and online? The retail price for this watch with the steel band seems to be $5,550. However online I have seen a number of sites advertising the watch brand new with papers etc. for $4,200 price range. My question is should I buy it online, or are these not legitimate? Any advice on where to find the best deal would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Zbrockman06 over in the dealers corner under the buy sell trade forum has a pre owned SA II for $4000. I have dealt with him for a long time. He is great guy and will treat you right. I am actually in the process of purchasing a 6.75 with Grey dial from him as we speak. You won't find a better deal for that SA II. good luck on what you decide to do.

I am on my phone otherwise I would post the link to the part of the forum.

With that being said I am not sure what websites you have found those prices on but more than likely they are grey market. Meaning you do not get a factory warranty with them. Also more than likely pre owned I imagine? You just have to make sure any watch you purchase online has papers to match the watch. The serial number on the paperwork has to match the watch. I have been burned before so I would either deal with members on here or go to an AD. The old saying goes though some things are to good to be true. zbrockman06 will def be able to take care of what you are looking for.

Not quite. The SA II is clearly stated as pre owned.

If you buy online then you aren't buying from an authorized dealer so no warranty, no guarantee that the watch isn't a customer return, etc. If you buy from an AD then their advertised price will be the list price but they will work with you on that. Tourneau isn't generally recommended in the US but forum sponsor Govberg comes highly recommended by many people.

I also suspect that any online /gray market dealer will be unable to deliver a SA II for that price regardless of what they advertise.

Oh sorry about that. I must have read a different line item on his list. Thank you for the correction.

I have a preowned SAII but can get you a new SAII for a great price. The online retailers are not authorized dealers, you will not have the breitling warranty and will have some in-house warranty (from what i've heard, never seems to work out for the customer). All my watches come from Authorized Dealers, and will have a full warranty through Breitling. If you would like more details, send me a PM. thanks.

In house warranties are useless unless they offer replacement because non authorised retailers can't access Breitling parts. Even with replacement you are gambling because you know that returns are simply being resold to some other unsuspecting buyer.

If it isn't a Breitling warranty you have to great it like no warranty which makes grey market unappealing in most circumstances.

The thing is, most every AD will give you at least 15% off. Unauthorized dealers and Breitling are not compatible. Don't save a couple hundred today to have potential issues with service and support for years down the road.

I don't know. I think jomashop.com is ok.

The question is what if they do need repair. Do they use BREITLING pieces. Do you even get it back? Are the serials intact?

Glad that you think that, personally I find their policy of selling watches that they don't have a little less than ideal.

If any grey dealer needs to repair they WILL NOT use Breitling parts because they can't access them.

Virtually no grey market seller removes serial numbers any more.

Could not recommend George at Govberg any more highly. Bought all 3 of my Breitlings from him. Will be going back again soon. :lingsrock:

I heartily second that sentiment. My transactions with George at Govberg have been outstanding.

They list watches for sale they don't have and then they try to source them. Sometimes they can't get them and end up holding your money while they look.

They aren't alone. Wingate's has been known to pull this stunt as well.
