Good morning,

I had the unfortunate experience of dropping my watch this morning - the 60 minute counter has jumpred 1 minute forward and will not come back with me pressing the rest button - does this indicate that it is broken? Any ideas for getting fixed/cost etc.

Many thanks in advance!

That's one of my fears, and I dread the thought every time I put a watch on or take it off that I will do the same.

The hand has probably turned on the spindle due to the impact of dropping the watch. Its not easy to tell if anything else might be wrong, and the only way of inspecting the damage and perhaps resetting the hand (if its only that) is to take it to your local AD and have it repaired. If the watch is working fine other than that, then hopefully there will be no other surprises when they assess the damage.

Wouldn't be so sure that it's just the hand slipping, but either way that can't be addressed without removing the movement from the case so a Breitling service is definitely in order. Bent arbors, broken jewels etc could easily have occurred and won't be immediately obvious.

Thanks for the replies - I think I may have got off lightly. I decided to run the chronograph for around 25 minutes and then reset the watch. Once I did this the watch went back to its normal self, or at least I hope it has.

Thanks again!

Definitely not a slipped hand then, but I wouldn't be confident that it has fixed itself. There could be any number of things going on that wouldn't be immediately obvious and I would want to get it checked out.

Hi teel9964,

Sounds like you dodged some costs and your watch is back to normal operation. I would have it checked out though, as its only guessing as to what might have occurred without an assessment. Might not be anything, but you can't rule anything in our out. If the problem reoccurs, then I would definitely have it looked at. Monitor it for a while and see if there is any change in the reset over time. I had the same problem with one of my chronos that you are describing, where it satisfactorily reset after a miss-zero. I found over time that, every now and then, it would miss-zero, again.

Hey there!

I have a Breitling Watch myself.
When I was setting its time, it stopped working and all of its needles also stopped. When I turn the key it starts to work for only ten seconds and then stops.
Do you have any suggestions?

IF POSSIBLE GIVE ME AN ANSWER SOON!!

OK well first off, we're going to need some more information. I assume the watch you're talking about is an M1 as your post is attached to an M1 thread? If it's not an M1 let us know which model it is (if you don't know just give us the model number off the back - e.g. A44359) and I will move your post into a new thread for you so it will get some exposure instead of being buried in an existing thread.

How old is the watch? Has it ever been serviced? How long have you had the watch - i.e. have you known it to run perfectly well in the past, or is it new to you? If it's an M1 (or another quartz model), when was the battery last changed? If it's an automatic (which would mean it's not an M1), how many times did you wind the crown after setting the time? If you barely turned the crown at all, then running for 10 secs is probably likely. However if you wound it at least 40 complete turns, then there is something wrong.

To be honest it sounds highly likely that Breitling will need to take a look at it. If it's new and purchased from an AD then any repairs will be under warranty, otherwise you will be liable for the cost. If your watch is used and hasn't been serviced for a while, I'd suggest giving your local Breitling Service Centre a call (you haven't told us where you are based) and they will be able to give you an estimate for a service and if you describe the symptoms may be able to give a rough figure for any likely repairs.

If your watch is a Chrono Avenger M-1 (or Emergency Mission for that matter)......... Check your watch instruction manual.

There is a way of resetting the chrono minute hand. Pullout the crown one click and then press the lower push-piece (the one at 4-5 o'clock) that will advance the chrono minute hand by one minute for each press. So press it 59 times and you should find the minute hand sets at 60. OR If it has reset itself now you can press it 60 times and it will return to 60 (12 o'clock).

The watch has this facility for when the dial has the regatta countdown as one needs to be able to set the chrono minute hand to the "ten to" position in order to count down to the 5 minute and start guns.

Hope this helps.
