I have a Super Avenger Black Steel which I absolutely love. It does however now have a few nicks and marks which I'd ideally like removed. What are the options? I'm assuming that a Breitling service which would usually include a polish wouldn't have my Black Steel returned looking "as new" as it would a more traditional brushed steel or polished finish watch?

To my knowledge no one here has ever had it done so I think that you are just going to have to ask Breitling. They outsource the work to a company in Germany who I am sure can refinish it but if there are dents / nicks in the underlying steel - i.e. the shape of the case, then that will presumably have to be dealt with first.

Thank you for the welcome. In hindsight I should probably have introduced myself first!

I almost just purchased a Blacksteel Seawolf also, but after contacting Breitling directly I decided against it. I was told that the finish can't be fixed if scratched. They did say that the parts could be replaced but would be expensive. As much as I loved the watch, I know it would eventually get scratched and that would have driven me nuts.

There seem to be a number of companies who offer a refurbishment service. I specifically noticed a company called DLC Finish Company. They will strip the watch, refurbish and refinish to an apparently out of the box condition - they will also customise. Quite a few pics of their projects online and have to say that from the pics the quality looks good.

Does anyone have first hand experience of DLC Finish Company?

How bad is the damage you are describing? Can you live with it, if you had to, or is it really annoying?

I can certainly live with it. From arms length the watch looks perfect. The most annoying are a couple of scratches between the lower lugs where I managed to slip once while changing the strap - noticeable when they catch the light.

I guess pursuing the suggestions here might be your only options & probably expensive ones at that. Unfortunately this is always the bugbear with coated finishes. If you can't polish it out by yourself, like on stainless or titanium, then you are probably at the mercy of specialists & there charges.

I have only two coated watches of which I am extremely careful. Makes wearing them a pain mostly, as I am always watching where my wrist is in relationship to the rest of the world! Consequently, I don't wear them much.

The other way to look at this is the watch now has a birth mark & it now looks like it's been worn. If you can live with it, do nothing. Thats an economical approach too.

I swap it with an omega seamaster as my everyday watch so it does get used.

I know this is very low-tech, but how about some paint from the local hobby shop? With a matching color and the small size of the nick, it would probably blend in fairly well. You just need enough to cover the shiny part of the nick. If you didn't like the way it turned out, you could always remove the paint.

Thanks for the suggestion. The scratch is probably too fine to apply paint to. You're likely to have an even more noticeable paint spot

Unfortunately Breitling UK cannot refurbish Blacksteel pieces, I'm sure there are some London based companies (Bamford Watch Department) which may be able to help, however, i'm sure this won't come cheap!...
