I have an Aerospace Advantage which I set the time on from the FMS unit in the aircraft which in turn gets its time continuously updated from the GPS satellites. The Aerospace was off 1 second in one year. Now how's that for accuracy?

Steve

Well that is indeed amazing since the caliber 79 used in the Aerospace is guaranteed (COSC certified) not to gain or lose more than 15 seconds per year or 0.04 secs per day.

My 2013 issue 42mm Aerospace Avantage is currently running at +6 seconds per year which far supersedes the 15 spy factory adjustment.

Minimum COSC certification for quartz chronometre thermocompensated movements is -/+ 25 seconds per year or 0.07 seconds per day.

I believe the ETA superquartz movements in these watches can be manually adjusted in steps for tighter accuracy.

The ETA Thermoline movements (SuperQuartz is just Breitling's name) can be adjusted by a watchmaker to compensate for any tendency to run fast or slow. The thermo-compensation works by adding or subtracting from the vibration count of the crystal based on temperature and the movement can be forced to add / subtract more or less aggressively if the watch is inaccurate.

I was recently at the Royal Observatory at Greenwich and there is an exhibit with an atomic clock. Could not resist putting my B-1 SQ up against the display...no perceivable drift in the four months since I set it after getting it back after a full service from BUSA! My son's mug is in the reflection with his mouth open....
