I was chatting to a guy yesterday wearing a SA. He wasn't a particularly big guy and whilst the watch looked big and impressive, it didn't look ridiculous on him.
Visit an AD and try a few on. If YOU like it, who cares what anyone else may think!

Can somebody tell me what is the general rule of thumb for a watch to look good on your wrist ? (relation of wrist size and watch diameter) For instance will the Super Avenger (48mm) fit my 7inch wrist ? How big can you go before it starts looking like a wallclock tied to your wrist ? Thanks |

Hi, unfortunately this isn't going to help you much, but it really is all down to personal choice. Some people may have 8 inch wrists but still think that anything over 42mm looks too big. Likewise someone with 6 inch wrists may love the look and feel of an SA on their wrist. It's whatever you feel comfortable with. Personally as long as the lugs don't protrude further than my wrist on either side then I'm happy..... but as I say this is only my personal take on it. Ideally I like to see a little curvature of the strap or bracelet around my wrist, but to be honest it varies from model to model. Some watches "wear" larger (or smaller) than their dimensions would suggest. The rule of thumb is that there is no rule of thumb! Try before you buy is the key, and buy what YOU like. Don't be swayed by anything anyone else says - you have to wear it, so it's vital that you are comfortable with it. |

I was in your same situation over the summer. I don't have large wrists (around 7"), but got great advice here. In the end, I decided to go for it. It is on my wrist right now and I am very glad I bought it! It is sweet!! |

I have to agree with what others have said. The only thing to do is to try it on your own wrist and decide if you like the look and if you would be comfortable wearing the watch out in public. If you answer yes to both questions then you may have a choice that you can be happy with. Len |

Thank you all for the info ! The answers make 100% sense. I live 270km from the nearest AD and they don't carry a big collection. (Don't think they even saw the previous SA yet) The other AD's are about 900km away and also not big. So I have to keep myself out of mischief by asking you guys questions and then try to form an idea of these incredible timepieces. Have a nice one. |

No worries - ask away! 
BTW, if you really can't get to try one on before buying, I personally would advise steering clear of the SA. It really tends to polarise opinion as it IS a big watch. If you were to buy one cold, you may love it, or you may find it just too big..... so IMHO it'd be a bit of a gamble without seeing it first. With something like the AS you probably can't go wrong, but as we've said, if at all possible try-before-you-buy is always the best option. |
