Hi everyone, I have a friend who has got a relatively badly water damaged Navitimer world. He has taken into a local watch repairer who has managed to get the watch working, albeit with a non-Breitling movement. It has now been sent back to Breitling, who have advised him that the watch is salvageable but at a rather high cost - not too much less than replacing it with a new one. The issue with the non-Breitling movement was that the watch back would not close. Does anybody know of a source for the correct movement that he could get fitted independently of Breitling or of another movement that would make the watch useable again? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I am surprised that Breitling even agreed to work on it - usually when it has been that badly modified by a non authorised repair shop then they won't touch it. The only source for genuine Breitling parts is Breitling and the only way that watch can still be considered a Breitling is if it has a genuine Breitling movement in it. Your friend is going to have to pay for the repairs and undoing the work of the unauthorised watchmaker I'm afraid. |

Hi, the non-Breitling movement was purely put in to see if the watch would work with only the movement being replaced. It was not meant as a permanent solution. The watch worked fine so he thought that there may be a more cost effective way of having the work done as Breitling had effectively 'written' the watch off with the repair quotation that they had given. Thanks. |

Agree that it's a money maker, but in the past they have simply refused to work on what they consider to be 'franken' pieces. Agreed that it's easier to undo the unauthorised work when you just pull the entire movement, but work also had to have been done around dial, hands, etc. |

Seems like a very odd move for the watchmaker to put in a non-Breilting movement "just to see if the watch would work". Of course it would work as the working of a watch is entirely down to the movement! I realise this is a moot point now, but the better bet would've been to send the damaged (but completely Breitling) watch to Breitling for repairs in the first place as they may have been able to salvage some of the original movement. Is there no way to put the original movement back into the watch and then send that to Breitling? May save a bit of money. But as others have said, Breitling themselves is the only source of Breitling movements, so if you want the watch repaired you will have to go via them (unless of course you get exceptionally lucky on eBay or Chrono24, etc). |

I know this is a left field question, but why not get the original movement back from the watchmaker? Is this possible or is it too late? That way, could your friend not send the watch and original movement in for repair to Breitling, and perhaps be favoured with a better price? |
