I notice that a lot of you have been asking if you can use your chrono pushers underwater. Pushers are made with internal O ring seals and will be tested to the same depths as the rest of the watch so if your watch is water resistant to 300m then so are the pushers. Pushers generally come in two types - screwed in or driven in and both types seal to the case. My watch materials catalogue list many types of generic pushers that are graded to 100m depths so brand name watches will have theirs made to a specification that will match the rest of the watch. So gentlemen - time your dives no problem!! OK? |

The one I have is from a UK company called Cousins - www.cousinsuk.com. In the US you have www.ofrei.com or www.julesborel.com - they both have online catalogues - not sure if they supply a printed version. |

That is interesting.. my AD told me different. What is the point of having screwed in pushers then if they are rated to the depth regardless of whether or not they are screwed in? |

Mark, you are correct;  AS LONG AS YOU DON'T ACTUALLY USE PUSH THE BUTTONS UNDER WATER!
Sorry, not screaming at you, just making a very important statement! The reason for not pushing the buttons, is because you'll suck water right into the inside of the watch, with all the negative consequences. Trust me, when I worked at Breitling, we saw these watches come in wet (and rusted) on a daily base, because the wearer would push the buttons while the watch was wet! Just my 2 cents.... Vanessa |

Good point, when they're screwed in you can't accidently push the button under water! |

Watchmakeress, that is the way I understood it. I got the impression that Mark was saying that you can use the pushers underwater to the rated depth. At least we're all cleared up on this now: 1. Pushers are rated to the same depth as the watch, whether or not they are screwed in. 2. But DO NOT PUSH the pushers when the watch is wet. |

Vanessa - You are totally correct and thanks for pointing that out. I should have made that more clear - my apologies for the misleading info!! The pushers are depth tested but in a static position. Perhaps the admin should delete this thread. |

Naw this is a good thread because a lot of people (me included) were unsure about whether or not the pushers were still rated to the full depth if they were not screwed down on the Chronomat EVO and the Chrono SuperOcean.. but that's been cleared up, they are rated to the full depth whether or not they are screwed down, and they are simply there to prevent accidental pushing of them. This is good info!

I agree with Admin that this was helpful. Since we are on the topic of pushers does anyone know why the Chrono Evo's which are part of the windrider (Pilot) series have screw down pushers whereas the Super Avenger a part of the Aeromarine (divers and other functional watches) series doesn't. The SA is rated to the same depth as the Evo yet I was concerned about wearing it while on vacation in fear that I might accidentally activate the pusher when in the pool. Any thoughts? |
