So....I'm fast approaching my 40th birthday and my better half asked what I'd like as a 'commemorative'. I suggested to my wife that I would like a Transocean Chronograph.....and she came back to me with a bit of a dilemma... Would you prefer: 1) one each of the rose gold bezel/stainless case, silver and black faces; 1) one rose gold case model, either silver or black face I am honestly torn about this. In the past, I've always saved my money until such time as I could afford white/silver and black of whichever Breitling I had my eye on, and always two-tone, and I've never really thought too much about investing in an all gold piece because I thought I'd be too petrified of scratching it up such that it would sit in my safe. But I visited the NY boutique a few days ago and have to say that the all gold/silver TOC is a truly beautiful timepiece so I don't know. The rose gold/steel combos are not bad at all-don't get me wrong. Interested in thoughts, if any. Embarrassment of riches, I know....but it takes some of the bite out of the big 4-0. |

Well congrats on the upcoming milestone. I think that at some point the idea of a gold watch becomes not only more attractive but almost a 'siren call' - they just look so darned nice. Personally I'm a sucker for darker dials with rose gold, but I'm not sure that there is a bad choice. For me, especially as a milestone birthday commemorative from your wife, I would go for the gold piece. It should be obvious, but...... On strap, never on gold bracelet. |

The rose gold TO Chronos do look very nice. I'd stick with just getting one of those. |

As far as the choice of color combinations, I like the all gold case, black dial with black croc strap. |

Personally I'd go rose gold TOC with a black dial. Roffensian wrote: On strap, never on gold bracelet. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Rose gold case, silver dial. NO DOUBT! If they had a steel case with the silver dial all the way through, no black subdials, then I'd have one. Okay...they did have the limited edition, but I don't like numbers engraved on the side of the case. For me the next best thing (though maybe I like it even more) is the silver-dial 3-hand, so that's what I ended up with and I love it. |
