Does anyone who works in a somewhat physical (hands-on) type of environment have a LE Breitling with the Blacksteel finish on it?

I really like the non-reflective, flat black (almost grey) color of that finish. It is perfect for my job, but I am curious to see if anyone has had one for a while and if the finish holds up...

Lots of topics on this as well. General consensus is that it wears reasonably well, although I have certainly seen wear in places like the clasp, but because it is a surface coating dings that 'reshape' the metal will cause the steel to show through.

so the coating will not flex with a small ding?

i'm sure a good scratch would allow the metal to show through, just wondering about daily wear. i assume the clasp would take the brunt of the wear, but that is a piece that can probably be replaced.

Daily wear the coating holds up very well, but any ding or knock that would show on stainless, most likely would chip the DLC. Dropping, banging against stone or metal, or any other extreme form of contact would surely scratch or knick.

I guess the answer to this question is self evident, but............ Do you need to wear it as a daily wearer?

I know, it suits your work and feels right, but its an expensive time piece with a finish that can be damaged. If you needed to, could you perhaps wear it only when there is less risk of potential damage?

I love the watch style, but I don't like coated finishes for the reasons other expressed. Its a conundrum.

Agreed. In a physical hands-on type of job I'd go for a G-Shock or something instead.

It holds up well, but if its gonna be banged around, its probably better to leave it off.

And I agree with the above...just buy a g-shock. They're bombproof, and surprisingly satisfying to own. I just ordered another one last night.
