Post subject: | Boutique Question |
Hi, I am new here and I have a question... To introduce myself, I picked up a SA a few months ago (my first Breitling). I'm sure it will come as no surprise to most of you, but I am already working on acquiring a second, lol. I am waiting for the right time to pull the trigger on a Chronospace Automatic Blacksteel for work, but I just came across something strange... The AD where I bought my SA is great. They are nice, not pushy, and very helpful. They sent me an invite to a special event where they will be offering a discount on stuff in the store. They have the watch I want, and told me the discount would apply... Then, I was at a mall the other day, and I spoke with the guy at the Breitling Boutique (they had the watch I am looking at, too...but a lower number). He was a bit rude and told me the following: -Non-Boutique AD stores are not allowed to carry the Limited Editions (like the one I am looking at). -Non-Boutique AD stores are not allowed to offer discounts on Limited Editions (like the one I am looking at). and finally... -Boutique stores cannot discount their watches. Is any of this true? Thanks!! |

The 3rd statement is true - boutiques don't discount. The others are false (although LE allocation is not random - sales volumes drive it to an extent). Welcome to BreitlingSource. |

Thanks for the reply! The boutique guy also gave me the "I know *blank*, the manager at that runs that AD and he is not supposed to be *yadda yadda* so I am going to have to *blah blah blah*..." Basically all I heard was "Do not ever buy anything from my boutique..." |

There are some boutique only editions that ADs won't get. |

Indeed! Most LE's are available to us but there are what they call Boutique Editions (like the SO 42 White Water). |

There were 2 versions of the Chronospace Blacksteel this year. If you were in a boutique chances are you saw a green dial and a black dial. The Green dial used to be a boutique edition but due to low sales it was opened up to the other AD's so I've heard. As far as discounting, Breitling is clamping down heavily on AD's everywhere and chances are if you went to an AD in the same city as the boutique I doubt the sales guy was trying to scare you into thinking that he knew the manager there (they do secret shop). You said the guy was rude, could it have been perhaps insulting to him that you were possibly pushing a little too hard for a discount? It's a boutique environment, your kind of insulting the boutique as well as all the other customers that have bought watches there by making it seem as though YOU deserve a discount. Perhaps this is the demeanor you carried (whether you wanted to or not) and the sales guy picked up on it. Just playing devil's advocate here, but I'm sure they weren't chasing you out the door trying to reel you back into the store, customers worried about price are not the boutiques customers. Plain and simple. Good luck in finding your watch. |

tell the guy at the boutique to shove it up his rear. unless its a boutique exclusive your AD will be able to get it for you |

Sorry to highjack the thread abit, but are there any inherent advantages to purchasing at the boutique apart from the "prestige"? |

No. They may give you more 'swag' but you pay for that with no discount. Boutiques are great places to see the full range, but you buy elsewhere unless it's a boutique exclusive. |

Same goes for other Boutiques, not just Breitling. I was buying a Cartier Tang for Mrs wessa, went to Cartier Boutique and when I mentioned "discount", it felt as if I mentioned some dirty word. Went to an AD 50 meters down he road and got 10% off without even asking for it. Same when I was getting a Rolex Ladyjust for the Mrs. |

Basically You are right. You won't get a discount at a boutique and can buy the watch with a discount at any AD. But they will probably offer You other devotionallies at the boutique, like jackets, sweaters or whatever. But please don't write too much about having a look at the range and informing at the boutique and buying at the next AD with a discount, as the number of ADs near boutiques tend to dwindle if You do too much... Alien wrote: But please don't write too much about having a look at the range and informing at the boutique and buying at the next AD with a discount, as the number of ADs near boutiques tend to dwindle if You do too much... I think that's inevitable anyway Thomas. When Breitling adds a boutique location there has to be an expectation that ADs within x miles will be reduced in the medium to long term anyway. The boutique strategy is all about trying to maintain prices and increase producer / distributor margin and ADs are not consistent with that strategy sadly. |
