Could this be a life style promotion? Brands like Porsche and Rolex promote an ideal that if you own one, you are a special type of person. You live a life style above the man who has not yet graduated to the brand. Nice way to get people together that is interested in the same thing and keeping the "likes" on facebook high.
Yes, it could be seen as such, but its Brand Awareness at its core. A good read in a free mag is always an excuse to pass out a coloured mag to anyone remotely interested, or in many cases, to those who have no idea about the maker. Kids see it and look at the content and think, one day I am going to own one of those. Shoppers see it and think, maybe a present for the other half this year. The association with aviation or the brand ambassadors always gets readers in to look at what they are up to. To read the articles/infotainment and to see the association with events or people that are attractive/desirable is always a winner.
Its a good way of saying everything about you to a very wide audience that would possibly otherwise not notice you.
